How they go back on booking at last moment

Meru shall not be liable for any direct or indirect loss or damage which may be suffered by the Customer as a result of any failure by Meru to provide a taxi to the Customer within any stipulated time even if Meru has agreed to so provide the taxi or even if the Customer has advised Meru of the possibility that any such loss or damage would result if the taxi is not provided at all or within the stipulated time.


All of the above means that whatever loss would happen to me due to Meru Cabs’ inability/reluctance to provide committed service, the company will not be liable for it. Not very apathetic, considering what happened with me today. I had a really important examination at 2 pm and the center was 25 km from my place. So I booked a Meru Cab yesterday* at 4 pm, to pick me at 11:50 am today.


I thought it was safe enough. Bad assumption. They had confirmed my booking yesterday, but I was totally unaware that poor chaps could not find even one cab in my area that could service me. Up until 11:50 am in the morning I kept waiting for the chauffeur’s call, sadly none came. At 11:55 am, one of their operators called up expressing their regret that they could not find a cab to service me. I mean what is this, some joke? If a cab company can’t honor its commitment coz it could not’find’ a cab, then what the hell are they doing? Aren’t they supposed to have cabs at their command, especially if the booking has happened the day before?


Finally I had to haggle with 5 auto rickshaw drivers before I could get one to drop me. I reached my examination center flustered, tired and shaken by the bumpy auto ride. No marks for guessing how it affected my performance.


For the nincompoop Meru Cab official reading this, the one who will be ready to spring up with "Sir you have not given any details of the booking". The details are as under:

So here are my suggestions:




  1. To the reader: Guys, please do not bank on the service of these unprofessional people on crunch and crucial occasions, unless you are trying to save some 50 bucks and have nothing better to do than waste time and get disappointed. Believe me, I am one who recommended Meru Cabs to at least 5-6 people earlier. But what happened today really pissed me off for good, good enough to deter me FROM ANY FURTHER BOOKING.




  2. To Meru Cabs ppl: Dear Sirs and Madams, your great enterprise almost cost me a critically important examination today. If possible, please be benevolent enough to inform the user about 5 hours before the scheduled service, so that the poor to-be-victim-of-you-insensitivity client can try to look for alternatives. For, no cab company will give you a cab on lesser than an hour’s notice(barring you of course, the immortals who can do it in half an hour, right?). And yes, next time this happens, please don’t ask a female operator to break the bad news. Cultured people like me find it really difficult to shout obscenities at women.
