Bandwagon Metro !

We are all familiar with the Bollywood Bandwagon. Whatever does well, will have a zillion similar versions.

The Lost - and- found brothers in the 70’s, the dostana 2 friends of the 80’s, the Amprali dresses and snake dances, after the success of Nagina, so here we go, the Infidelity bandwagon.

So let it be with Metro.

Synopsis

The movie is very dark, literally, much of it shot in dark areas.

It starts with the family of Shilpa and Irfaan and their  child. Its interesting to see that the movie revolves around the sensitive issues of both the sides, - husband and sife,  however the question of who is looking after the child is never solved. The husband is busy with his work and his infidelity, and the wife with her dissatisfied marital life and daily chores, and the child a forgotten background feature.

The husband’s character is potrayed as a ruthless, uncaring . He is having and affair with a girl in his office and feels he has a right to it.

The wife - is frustrated with her constricted life at home and her uncaring husband. There is no communication between them. This is potrayed where she asks him about their  anniversay party and he doesnt know, however when he does, it doesnt make a difference .

The character of the’ other girl’ is very lightly  etched, not too much talk, we dont really know whoe she is is and why she is in a relationship, being abused and yet chooses to go back.

The sweet office romance is a clear lift off from the 1993 Hollywood Movie For love or money . The young struggling man, trying to please his boss but is in love with the girl whom he is having an affair with. The scene where he takes her to show the place wher he wants to open restaurant is lifted straight off.

Great will be the day when we dont need to rely on Hollywood for Plagiaristic’ inspiration’!

The only fresh story angle is Konkona, she enthuses life in any character she plays, and makes it her own. She plays Shilpa’s sister. She falls for a man who works in her office, but ends up finding he is gay.

She plays a character who blunders around looking for the right man, but doesnt realise the person she sees nearly everyday is whom she really wants.

Shiney Ahuja is great eye candy. He plays a theatre actor, who gets friendly with Shilpa and then wants more of her and yearns a relation ship with her.Great to watch, hope he does more roles iwth substance

Shilpa plays a great character, wanting more out of her life, but not willing to let go of her morals.

The movie is good is you have 3 hours of nothing else to do.

If you have 1/2 of that time, rent and watch For Love or money with Michale J Fox & Gabrielle Anwar

Shilpa looks great, manages to act well, looks good, very fresh and attractive.

The older couple’s romance is good, but kind of a’ side dish’ . It would need sensitivity and time to be potrayed better. Its great to see Dharam back., though he doesnt have much to do.
