Metro cinema was a heritage cinema hall in the city of kolkata for last 80 years. But, last year this cinema hall has been closed and a new multiplex chain of Big Cinema owned by Reliance Group has established in the same place. So, Metro Cinema is no more, people now want to watch movie in Big cinema.
Location of Metro Cinema is a major attraction. It is situated in the busy Esplanade area of the city. The lane in which the metro was located in a heritage building, is commonly called" Metro Gali".
I have watched so many films in Metro. Once, it was famous for screening award winning Holloywood movies. I also watched several Hindi and Bengali cinema in this hall. In my childhood, I could remember the ambiance of this hall was quite different comparing to other movie halls in the city.
On the passage of the hall, red carpet was laying and it was a nice experience to have your seat walking on the red carpet. I have never experienced it later also in my life in any other cities of India. So, Metro carried a name of legacy, culture and heritage.
I have also watched movies in present multiplex established in place of Metro. It is also a good experience. But, experience of watching a movie more or less same for all the multiplexes. The atmosphere is plush and cool. Seating arrangement is comfortable and you can relax in the dark comfort with a pack of pop corn and cold drinks.Ticket prices are a bit higher as it is now a multiplex movie hall, picture and sound quality is excellent.I recommend this place.
