Pritam has done it again!

What is the problem with Mouthshuttians? I have seen good, average and bad albums getting reviewed, talked about, discussed and forgotten but just a single review on Metro album so far. Bahut naa-insaafi hai.. Where have the music lovers gone? Certainly this is one gem of an album that cannot be ignored and I mean it. Obviously for that, you need to broaden your outlook a little bit and be ready to welcome the Metro/Pritam band/Rock type music with open arms. Thats what I have done.

I bought the album last week after reading good reviews on it by several people on internet and from my friends. So I decided to give it a try. And for that I purchased a tape. I was very much sure I was going to like it.

After first hearing, I ended up liking two and a half songs: In dino, Alvida and the half portion of Rishtay. Well... the "naranna na na na na ..." portion didn’t go down well with me then. I thought why was it necessary to include that high pitched voice in a beautiful song; It had ruined the impact of the overall song quite a bit. The other two talked about song: Baatein kuch ankahee si and O meri jaan were okie dokies for me. And I stopped playing Kar Salaam after listening to it for a minute.

All right, I didnt touch the tape again. Got into other important activities.

This Sunday managed to watch Metro. I liked it (my review already posted). But what was extraordinary about it was the fact the music of the film was so beautifully and suitably blended into it according to the situations - capturing the essence, mood and passion of the film with panache. Yes, you actually love the songs so much after you actually watch the film. So all you need to do is: watch the film (preferably in theatre), go home and relax yourself on your comfortable sofa, think about the film and play its music. There are high chances you’ll simply adore the music. Pritam has done a fantastic job. You actually like the song Kar salaam too: because it is meaningful and not bad to listen to either.

So I started liking Metro’s album from the second go itself. Let me discuss each of its wonderful songs one by one:

In Dino: A most beautiful number and instantly likeable. Sung very well by Soham, with very sensible lyrics which imply "Don’t care for thw world, because you have the right to fall in love". It is also picturized in the movie at a time when the characters were undergoing emotional crisis in their personal lives and were wanting to break their confinements and do what pleases them. Especially the song perfectly suited Shilpa’s condition.

My most beautiful line from this song is:

Berang si hai badi zindagi kuch rang to bharoo..

Mai apni tanhaiyee ke vaaste ab kuch to karoo..

Jab mile thodi fursat

khud se kar le mohabbat

Alvida: Like In Dino, I started liking it when I heard it for the first time. There are two versions of it: One sung by James and the other by KK. And I preferred listening to the latter’s version. This man is an amazing talent and can infuse energy into the most ordinary of songs. Such with utmost passion complemented by some great music and lyrics, this one is just rocking.

The opening lyrics of this song are the best:

Chupke se kahin

dheeme paav se

jaane kis jagah kis ghadi..

aage badh gaye

humse raaste.....

Rishtay: Maybe the song would have been a tad better if Pritam had decided not to include the high pitched James’ voice. Like I said before, it brought the overall song down. But I’m not saying here that the song becomes bad or average. It still remains a very good song, and retains its haunting feel throughout. Whether listen to the way the music opens or listen to any antara, you will be thoroughly impressed with this one. James does a fantastic job as well.

Once again very impressive https://lyrics. In this era of contrived and stereotyped lyrics in songs, this one’s a beauty:

Rishtay to nahi rishto ki.. parchaiyya mile

Yeh kaisi bheed hai jisme bas.. parchaiyya mile

O meri jaan: This one’s a romantic number and a quite pleasant one at that. Sung once again by Kay Kay and the other version is by Suhail. This one’s a fresh as a cool breeze on a night beach. I don’t remember the exact lyrics as of now but will update them here once I listen to it few more times.

Baatein kuch ankahee si: Another very good song, sung by Suhail. The die hard romantics will absolutely love this one, especially the middle portions. There’s a substantial stress on melody and beautiful lyrics and Pritam and his gang don’t dissapoint again. Worth a rewind.

Baatein kuch ankahee si

kuch ansuni si hone lagi

kaaboo dil pe raha na

hasti humari khone lagi..

hoo hooooo hooo hooooo

Kar Salaam: Though its not at par with the other great songs of the album, this one can be worth a listen for the positive feel attached to it. It teaches us a few lessons in life. This one plays at the end of the film, with all the key singers of the album lending their voices to it, including Pritam.

Kyun zindagi se ho shikva gila

yeh hasti hai roti hai jo bhi hai jaisi hai

....

kar salaaaam

All in all, a very good album after a long time. Anuraag Basu has proved once again that music in his films is always good, no matter how bad his film is. After a mesmerising Gangster, Metro is one album every music lover should keep.

P.S.: We need more reviews on the album. And if I have made any spelling/grammatical mistakes, do point them out.

Regards,

Pranay
