The bigger the number the better; that is what Netscape thought by releasing version 6 of their popular browser a little more then a year ago. They were stuck in the 4.7x rut for a while and needed something to leapfrog ahead of Microsoft who was out with version 5, and soon thereafter, 5.5 of Internet Explorer. Microsoft didnt fall prey to the version number game as Netscape did. Instead, they patiently coded away in their Redmond, WA concrete bunker. What they were coding was the highly anticipated Netscape Killer version 6 of Internet Explorer. Today was the big day, version 6 went public. Funny thing is, I almost didnt notice it - I swear I saw a tumbleweed blow by due to lack of news in the industry today. Less then a week after XP was released to manufacturers, adding fuel to the fire they are trying to put out in the US court system, IE comes out, and again the fire rages on. Is Bill Gates a pyromaniac? I just downloaded IE6 on my laptop and as I installed it I dutifully snapped off screen shots of everything I could.
