An interesting experiment by Tanikella Bharani

Last sunday, I saw this movie’ Midhunam’ on television. I generally don’t see the present day movies as most of them doesn’t have substance in them. But I couldn’t stop writing a review of this movie after getting very much impressed with it.

Tanikella Bharani directed this movie based on Sri Ramana’s Telugu novel’Midhunam’ means couple. This telugu novel is also a base of a malayalam movie. One needs to have guts to make such movie in the present day where songs, dances, fights, high star cast, heavy budget etc etc take the front seat.

The movie has only 2 characters. The movie is about after retirement life of a school teacher and his wife. Appadasu(SP Balasubrahmanyam) is a retired school teacher. Buchi(Lakshmi) is his wife. After retirement Appadasu lives in his own house in the village with his wife. They will have 5 children living abroad. The couple do all their works on their own. They neither have a servant nor latest gadgets and home appliances to ease their life. They literally do not have any attachment to the outside world. Appadasu is multi talented and can do all jobs like weaving, gardening, taming the domestic animals for milk, making pots and you name it. The story is about how they lead their life and what happens in the end. It is not a great story but the picturization and plot are excellent.  I wish I too can have such a peaceful post retirement life away from the current day concrete jungles and polluted environment.

A poem by Jonnavithula on coffee is excellent. Film has got few songs also that won’t interrupt the story(like the hero and heroine going to a foreign location suddenly and dance to a duet in the latest movies) and are pleasant to listen.

Once you start watching this movie, you don’t feel like even taking a break. When I watch these kind of movies on television, I feel like giving a rethinking at my decision to stop going to theaters for watching movies. Over all its a good movie to watch.
