Looking for Meaning of Life ??

This book consists of edited talks between U.G.Krishnamurti and various questioners in India, Switzerland and California in 1983 and 1984. For the people who does not know about U.G.Krishnamurti,  a quick search on wikipedia would give you a brief idea about him.

The tagline of the title of the book is  "disquiting conversations  with the man called U.G.". It is an apt tagline as this book reveals some disquiting things about our life, which we have not thought so far. This book is certainly not for the readers who get carried away easily. This book is definitely for the readers who are in indefinite search for spiritual guru or search for Truth or whatsoever you call it .

Initial part of the book gives details about the U.G and his biography a bit before the actual conversations begins. This helps the new reader to understand  about U.G and his sayings.

U.G has stated as follows:  "My teaching, if that is the word you want to use, has no copyright. You are free to reproduce, distribute, interpret, misinterpret, distort, garble, do what you like, even claim authorship, without my consent or the permission of anybody."

Following the spirit of the above statement, most of the writers who wrote books on U.G. and his teachings(U.G. did not write any book) made them available online for free.

Coming to the content of the book, instead of I say what it is all about and what is in it, I am giving here a glimpse of it. Following is a question and answer from the book and I leave the rest to you guys to read it online.

========================================================================

Q: It is understandable that people should look for meaning in their lives, isn’t it?

U.G.: "The energy you are devoting to the search, to techniques, to your sadhana, or whatever you wish to call it, is taking away the energy you need to live. You are obsessed with finding meaning in life, and that is consuming a lot of energy. If that energy is released from the search for meaning, it can be used to see the futility of all search. Then your life becomes meaningful and the energy may be used for some useful purpose. Life, the so-called material life, has a meaning of its own. But you have been told that it is devoid of meaning and have superimposed a fictitious layer of "spiritual" meaning over it.

Why should life have any meaning? Why should there be any purpose to living? Living itself is all that is there. Your search for spiritual meaning has made a problem out of living. You have been fed all this rubbish about the ideal, perfect, peaceful, purposeful way of life, and you devote your energies to thinking about that rather than living fully. In any case you are living, no matter what you are thinking about. Life has to go on."
