Anyone who doubts Spielbergs accomplishments must see this flick.. this is what filmmaking is all about. The screenplay and the writing is what you need to check out... you will be amazed to see that at every point you will see what you must see in an ideal movie.. if it starts getting too serious the movie lightens up with those simple things like some balloons covering a view or a particular scene where Tom Cruise is asked to pick up an umbrella... scenes like advertisements calling out to you... it wont be your up for laughs scenes with you rolling with laughter.. it will be subtle humour.. and it makes for good viewing. And you will be amazed and like in a spell through the length of the film.
Its one hell of a movie so much so that any student of film who intends to entertain an audience must watch it. The only regret is that it is not stylized. What I mean is that the look of the film is too dull.. but then Spielberg himself stated that he wanted it specifically that way because he didnt think he was putting up something to cheer. He was in fact showing us what happens when a system you accept is meddled with. So I guess you cant complain as far as the theme of the movie goes but then when you are watching it for fun.. well...
But hey... he more than makes up for it with its excellent narrative and plot. The plot is unique and the performances are applaudable. Samantha.. whatever her name is.. casts a spell with her amazing performance.... and well she wont leave me surprised if she walks away with an oscar.. I havent seen any performance that is as startling and as noteworthy as hers this year. Tom Cruises performance is flawless and he is as good as the role requires. In fact there is no performance that can be faulted in the movie.
Its filmmaking at its best and from the best too... Spielberg... he casts his spell.. Go check it out...
