When I first got my computer the very first programs that I downloaded were icq and winamp. The third was mIRC after I had heard it was an awesome place to multitask doing certain things.
I downloaded the program about 3 years ago when the version status was at about 3.1 and now it is in the 7’s or so. mIRC stands for something Internet Relay Chat.
Downloading the Program
To download the program, it is a cinch .... simply go to https://mirc.com or https://download.com and type mirc and simply download the 2 meg file. For cable users, this will be a matter of seconds whereas anything under DSL will require from 5 to 10 minutes. Either way it is worth the download.
Installing the Program
The chat program is incredibly easy to install. Simply double click the file and it will automatically install in your hard drive to your desired location. It is not a large program and doesn’t slow your computer at all.
What Can You Do With the Program
There are various chat rooms that you can enter depending on your interests. You can visit the forum of the city you live in if someone has created one, you can go to your country, you can talk with teens, talk with your age category, talk about games, etc.
Downloading certain things are also available on the mirc network. You can download your favorite games, your favorite music on mp3’s, your favorite music videos, and how about your favorite unreleased on Video or DVD Movies. i.e Download Harry Potter at mirc.com.
There are different servers to enter :
Some good ones are dalnet, undernet and efnet. These servers contain the most people.
The Downsides to the Program
The top portion of the program seems like Photoshop x 50 in terms of difficulty. At first you will not know how to enter a room, but with a little browsing you can learn how to use all the functions. You can automatically set up your computer to open mirc on start up, connect and go into the room. If you are an op, you can even automatically login into op status with a few simple commands in one of the sub directories.
Overall Thoughts ....
I rarely use the program now because my internet activity has gone way down so I don’t find the time to chat with other people which is a shame. I use it for mp3’s only when my first three sources can’t find a match. As for movies, I only download a few if it is a really good movie. You can have a lot of fun with mIRC .... try it out if you haven’t already!
