Mithibai college actually consisted consisted 4 separate institutions mostly connected to each other through common trustees. They include Mithibai College of Arts, Chauhan Institute of Science, Amrutben Jivanlal College of Commerce And Economics, NM College Of Management. They were buildings all very close to each other. Its hard to tell by looking at the crowd of students which of these colleges they actually belong to.
However, if you spend atleast a year, you will be able to guess. As most people in Arts are the most fashionable and usually hangout outside talking around near the gate, street or in the canteen. The first time, I got in, I had no idea this place has influence from the film industry. I did not know that one would see the future faces of actors and actresses.
The college is a long enough walk from the Vile Parle (W) station, and usually requires an auto-ride unless you are really into walking. The roads around the college are mostly neat and clean, and as you approach Juhu beach, it gets really posh! During my time, there was not plenty of choice for eating. We rarely dared to leave the college, so usually ended up eating in the canteen.
The faculty was excellent, the labs were great, and the library was extensive. The only thing that would turn me off were the roaches the assistants would pick up from the local drain for dissecting in the laboratory. During our time, there was not a whole bunch of security checking. The watchmen would allow us in the building sometimes just based on recognizing our faces, and not even the badge.
Most people in our batch looked like future success stories. Some went to IIT, some went to IIM, some competed in International olympics, some went to Bollywood. Overall the students were very smart and had a great personality, great sense of dressing, very friendly and also extremely studious. Some very very rich. They would blow up a lot of money in local video game parlors.
What surprised me, is the distance people travelled to come to this college. There were people from Virar all the way to Churchgate. This probably means that this college was really popular. I also thought the attendance was actually really high, considering the fact that there were so many distractions. Students really came here to do their studies. They would hangout a few minutes outside college before and after lectures, but would soon vanish.
The only complaint I have is about the clerical staff that attested true copies. They would take a century to do the work. And there would be long lines always waiting for the service.
