Sridevi starrer "Mom" is brutal and terrifying. The film basically deals with the trauma a rape victim experiences and Ravi Udyawar, the debutant director, has done a great job.
Storyline: When the legal system fails, a mother avenges her daughters rape in her own way.
Plot: Biology teacher Devki is very popular among her students. She has a distant relationship with her step-daughter Arya. One day Arya gets an invitation to a V-day party and she goes to the party where she gets raped and then being thrown in a drain. This leaves the parents shattered.
Arya gets admitted in a hospital. She recovers and gives a statement on the attackers.
Devki decides to take revenge and meets private detective Dayashankar Kapoor aka DK who agrees to snoop around forinformation
This way then film unfolds. In the end we can see when Arya ultimately acknowledges Devki as "Mom", Devki shoots Jagan dead.
Performance: Suffers on account of its weak script.
Story: Devki Sharma(Sridevi) is a high school teacher. She has a step daughter named Arya. A gruesome crime is committed and Sridevi is found to be fighting for justice. It is yet another masterclass from this legendary actress.
There is a scene where Sridevi mam walks in and spots her daughter lying in the hospital bed, that 10 seconds scene where she just breaks down, was the best breakdown scene I have ever seen.
The supporting casts were also good.
Music: Special mention for AR Rahman sirs music, the background score is like an additional character in the film.
Climax sequence-Not good.
Cinematography by Anay Goswamy are noteworthy. He captures the proceedings strategically and in away that controls the audiences focus.
Powered by Sridevi mam, Mom is the exact kind of jolt we all need in frequent intervals.
