Monsoon Wedding had a very different feeling than any Bollywood film Ive watched. It had an air that was mildly reminiscent of Fire. It shows real India...real and normal middle class India...not the fun and shine of Preeti Zinta and Hritik Roshan...but real people and their real concerns, behaviors, and dilemmas.
The story centers around a female character and her soon-to-come engagement. You get to see a lot of the stories in the family and the film touches on the very taboo subject of pedophilia among family members - something most Indians, and many other cultures wish to keep denying.
The film is a bit startling in its own way because first it seduces you with the realistic air...and then it bites you on your way out. The film also has some very memorable and unique music to go along with the film. So I say in conclusion, that Monsson Wedding is educational yet difficult to watch.
