Monsters inc. is not just a children’s animated movie. This is the movie that will go down in history as the perfect animated movie. I was able to see this film without being distracted by the 3D rendering. Most Animated Movies distract the viewer from the story by blinding them with extravagant spectacles and imagery. Drawing them away from the story.
But in Monsters Inc, I could see a clear difference in the treatment of the subject matter. One can easily forget that one is watching digital imagery and fall completely in love with the characters.
The pace of this film is fast and you hardly have time to stop and admire the scenery. Its so unique in its narration that you will sit through the entire movie without blinking an eyelid.
It was able to bring back memories of my childhood. If it has successfully invoked such an emotion in the viewer then the film has done its job. I would grade this as the best movie in all my 33 years of watching movies.
The fluidity of motion achieved in the character animation surpasses Shrek, Bugs Life, Toy Story and even Final Fantasy. The fluid dynamics of fur seen on Monsters body needs special mention. The behaviour of fur in wind and snow was accurate and true to life. Yet we really dont notice these subtle details. Which to produce, takes quite a lot of work and process.
Good 3D animation is achieved when it stops interfering with the story and enhances the narration. Animation is not about achieving realism or adding extra bits to reality, its more about delivering an idea to the viewer without damaging the contents.
And this movie does that job exceptionally well without distracting you, without the designers own impressions, just pure story time at its best.
This movie gets 10/10 in all categories in all the following categories by my standards. Music, animation, humour, story, script and direction in this film scores above all the other animated films produced to date. What more can you ask for?
