Dwarka Sub city in Delhi has very few options of entertainment and places to eat.So when the famous chain of restaurant Moti Mahal opened up their branch at Dwarka I was really very excited.
The restaurant is in Sector – 12. It is less than 200 mts from Ashirwad Chowk at the third floor and is in the main market. Mostly people are park their cars on the main road but it is advisable to park in the service lane as there is a possibility that you may land up paying fine for parking in the no parking zone(of late Delhi Police has become very strict and the fine is very heavy). Service lane is not very well constructed and is actually a set of pot holes.
Anyway, we reached there on a weekday evening, when it was opened just few days back. The lift was not operational and steps are not very well lit. The stair case is very cramped and dirty. At first I thought of going some where else but my wife was too keen to dine there and like always I agreed to keep her happy.
When we reached the place, I was surprise to see a spacious place but again we were asked by the manager to wait for table. Please note that the restaurant doesn’t have place for the guest to wait, so you would have to stand along with many others at the reception desk itself. Manager at the place didn’t even have the courtesy to offer water to the guest….Something very different from the Mumbai restaurant industry where people are very hospitable. Don’t go with the expectation of good manners at this place. There was no queue system and the people were assigned the table on the number of people in the group, the larger the group the better is your chance to get a table. Unfortunately we were 2 adults and 1 kid so we had to wait a longer. So after almost 20 min wait we got the table, that also happened only when I lost my temper.
So far, not a good exp. …. Then we waited and waited and waited again for the waiter to attend us…. Call it our bad luck or something else, the staff was busy serving a big group of 10 people. After a wait of another 20-30 minutes I lost my patience very badly and wanted to really hit were it hurt most. I asked for check. The staff was really puzzled. They checked couple of number of times and finally the manager turned to us asking what did we have, showed him the empty glasses & informed that we could only have water and thought that we should pay for that. To this one would have expected that the Manager would have been apologetic but it was just the reverse. Anyway, they did get into action. We ordered Chicken platter, Thandai, Fanta for my daughter, Chicken Drum sticks, Murg Hyderabadi Biryani, butter nan & Tawa Chicken.(All this for 850 rupees only)
Within couple of minutes starters and the drinks were served. Thandai was good and part of patter was also good. Tawa chicken and butter chicken was also OK but the best thing was Biryani. It would actually melt in your mouth. Along with the food they also served complementary papards. Food was so good that it actually become worth waiting for the 1 hr.
The ambience of the place has been very contemporary. There is huge hall with dim sealing lights. The sitting arrangement is good blend of furniture. There are glass & bamboo supports and at one side there are huge glass windows. One wall is also made of mirror. The kitchen is transparent and there is also huge plasma television where you can watch football match( We saw Man U Vs Chelsea).
Besides a pathetic service there are two more down side, there is no bar to serve alcoholic drinks and during late night the market become little shabby as there is a wine shop and people sit outside the shop and drink on the road.
Just because the food is really good I feel it is value of money. Imagine for all this we paid only 850 rupees but I would advise that home delivery would be a better option though I don’t know how much will it take.
