Review On Motorola C-115 Model GSM Cell Phone by Zaysen 2002. Phone Purchased On:15th January 2006 From Bhagwati Electronics, Shop No:135 MCD Market, Karol Bagh, New Delhi-110 005. Price: Rs 1450/-[With Cash Receipt and Warranty Card Stamped with one year warranty] Review Written On the 10th of December 2005,
I had gone to the above MCD Market which has become a wholesale mobile market of new delhi for purchasing the battery of my present cell phone Panasonic EB-GD 75 for which I have written a review in this portal also. This Phone has served me very well for 3.25 years and hence needed the first battery change and it costed Rs 150/- at this market. To get the pulse of the market and to know about new models I enquired from many shops about the latest prices of GSM Cell Phones and was amazed to learn that the Motorola C-115 Model phone was available at a ridiculously low price of Rs 1600/- at one Shop Named Balaji Communication India. This was the same shop from which I had purchased the Panasonic Phone in the Year Oct 2002 for Rs 6100/-. On the 10th of January 2006, my mother needed a cell phone for her own use and hence I decided to get one. Since I had already a Monochrome Screen Panasonic Phone my First Instinct was to go for a upgraded Color Screen Phone with the basic voice and SMS features as I do not believe in complications like Camera, MP-3 Player, GPRS, WAP, MMS in a Phone. God Knows what makers will combine in a phone may be a toaster, ironer, washing machine, etc. I have always been a different person than the world and have avoided the herd mentality in going for the models which all people prefer and hence Nokia Models were all ruled out even though The Newly Launched Model Like 1600 and 6030 were very easily available. I read the reviews on Sony Ericsson but was disillusioned by the problems faced by many users in entry level models itself. Also as a Color Screen Phone would drink more battery I decided that cold logic and thinking from the head was the order of the day and hence on 15th of this month went to the above mentioned shop With Just Rs 2000/- in my pocket even though I had a budget of Rs 5000/-. This Shop had all models at very reasonable prices like Nokia 6030 at Rs 4950/- and Panasonic EB-A210 at Rs 3350/- all with bill. I was tempted by the Panasonic but cold logic prevailed and I asked for the Motorola C-115 and was given three pieces to chose from and chose the second piece after counting the IMEI No and it was lucky for me. When the price was told at Rs 1450/- I was stunned. Such a Small phone with all basic features at a rock bottom price! Nothing could now dislodge me in buying it, the very fact that it was so cheap and even if it worked for a year would be more than enough. Tested the Phone at the shop and speech clarity was amazing in Both STD and Local. Paid the cash and returned home. I will now highlight it’s pro and cons: 1) Basic No Frills Cell Phone with Voice, Text Messaging Features. No High end stuff like the above stated features not even polyphonic ring tones or a mobile address book only SIM Based. This Phone is Comparable as a wireless version of a basic Landline Wired phone of MTNL. 2) Menu System Very Easy to Operate especially the left and right keys which can be configured as per user’s needs. Separate Call and Cancel Buttons in Green and Red. 3)Voice Clarity Crystal Clear, Much better than many Nokia Models which is not surprising as Motorola has been a pioneer in communications field with their 2 way radio’s for a very long time. 4)Emphasis on Maximum Battery Life which is about 6 days with full 3 hours charge in standby mode and 4 days with mixed standby and talk mode. All battery Saving features like backlight off and power saving mode given. Not one Nokia model has a backlight off feature to save battery. 5)The Only Negatives of this phone are the hard rubber buttons which are very close to one another & will give the user Wrist pain and Repetitive Stress Injury and once the phone book is Loaded on the SIM one should just not play with the buttons. Even Sending SMS will be a pain from this phone. 6)Verdict: Just Pure Wireless Voice Communications and the Cheapest way to Go Mobile as Given Below: Cost of Motorola C115 Phone: Rs 1450.00 Cost of MTNL Trump Prepaid SIM Rs 250.00 With Rs 150/- Talk Time (15 Days Valid) Cost of MTNL Recharge Card Rs 2650.00 With Rs 2640/- Talk Value{ till 31/01/2006}3 Years Validity (This is not a Life Time Validity Card) Gross Total Cost of Staying Mobile for 3 Years Rs 4350.00 A new landline connection will even cost more. Hence this phone is suited for all first time and even advanced users who only want basic no frills voice communications and do not believe in wasting money on childish and mentally immature things like ring tone downloads, wall papers, MMS etc. For Any one not Averse to Monochrome Screen and wanting basic voice communications then this is the phone to purchase.
