This time I would like to review the Moto Flip W220 phone. I have been using this phone for the past year or so and I feel pretty qualified now to write this review.
To give you a background, I purchased this phone last year around Feb after my older Moto E365 gave up the ghost after it went for a swim at pearl valley(I dropped it into the swimming pool at the resort by accident!!), Bangalore.
I was given plenty of advise by all my friends, family and colleagues to go in for a nokia phone, it looked like they were all paid by Nokia to influence people to go in for their brand!! :-)
My requirements were clear - No camera, good battery life, Sleek, ease of use...within 5000 Bucks.
I walked into this store at Gurgaon DLF1 and Picked up the W220, At Rs.4000, it was a steal and fit well into my budget!!
Getting to the actual phone:
Pros:
1) Sleek design - Fits easily into my tight-jeans pocket(Need to change them some day!)
2) 600 Phone memory and 250SMS storage - Not that I am an SMS buff, but thought that it might be prudent to mention this (For the college crowd), the 600 phone memory though is pretty uselful for me!
3) FM radio and Quality Earphones - Integrated FM radio and a good quality pair of earphones to boot, this phone has a nifty feature, whereby, if you have the Earphones plugged in, then you can route the music to a speaker provided at the back of the phone!!
4) Lightweight - Actually an oxy-moron, most mobiles are lightweight these days!!
*Cons:
*1) Battery life - Battery life is not all that great as it was made out to me by the dealer, it gave me a talk time of around 6hrs once on a call and it normally runs out in around 8 and half hours, maybe its just my high usage (GPRS and chatting with my Fiancee) but I certainly expected more!
2) Lack of speaker phone: Definite thumbs down in this regard, it is very hard for me to understand why they would have a separate speaker for music from FM but No speaker phone!!!!
3) Phone hangs - I guess moto could never get over their hanging issues, I had a similar issue with the E365 mentioned earlier, and only a Motherboard replacement managed to fix that issue, but its not as pronounced in this model as the E365 - Could this be due to the fact that this phone does not offer memory storage??!! I will never know!!
Did I forget to mention that I have dropped this phone almost 6 times (Thankfully not in the water!!) ? I have never had any network problems despite dropping this phone 6 times on hard surfaces which says a lot about the build quality of the phone.
All in all this phone is a great buy for that young college going dude or dudette who is on a shoestring budget and wishes to flaunt a stylish mobile!!
Wouldnt recommend it to your parents though as it is not a very easy phone to operate (my mum was clueless when she had this handset as a replacement while her Nokia was away at the service centre!!)
The phone is available for around Rs.3000 today and is available in two options - Silver and Black.
Thanks for your time.
