The malayalam movie BHAGYADEVATA is a family entertainer starring Jayaram, Kaniha, Innocent, Nedumudi venu, venu nagavally, KPAC Lalitha, mamukkoya....The characters are true to life and the story is a smooth flow. The subtle plot pricks the consience of the audience on the issue of Dowry. Jayaram plans to purchase a fishing boat to end his days of poverty and the way he finds to finance the deal is to get dowry by marrying. The twists in the plot leave him married but woth no dowry.
He takes extreme step of taking his wife and leaving her back at her parents’ place. The story takes interesting turn when the lady scorned (the heroine) gets lucky with lottry. The hero is forced to fix his sister’s marriage, and he goes through the horrifying experience of not being able to arrange for her dowry. The heroine comes to the rescue and all end well. Few of the songs in the movie are melodious.The story has a moral for the generation of today. It is quite some time that an entetaining movie had such a strong social messsage. A must see for Jayaram fans too.
