Live audio commentary over the net by Worldspace

This is an excellent way to keep work as a priority even though you know that India and Australia are slogging it out in the game of cricket on the 22 yard strip and the grassed area around it. I have thrown out my TV so as to remain concentrated on my work(I write and paint from home) and also to give me quality time with my wife, when she comes back from the hospital(She’s a Doctor) and with my 2 dogs who love it when I can pay lots of attention to them even through the day, not to the TV as I used to till May this year.

But despite all the pros I mentioned earlier, the cons were heavyduty as well. I missed all the live cricketing action. I am a diehard fan of the game, to the extent that I was ready to watch a match between anybody and everybody, local or international, men’s or women’s, domestic, college, etc. Well you get the picture. And I loved to see the cricket on display not for the stars in the team but for the game itself. So, no TV meant restless hours for me. But then I would logon to the cricinfo site and keep track of the live cricket by way of their typed ball by ball commentary. It is by chance that I stumbled on to the Live cricket:

Ind vs Aus link when I logged out of my hotmail account. It was right there on the homepage of MSN India. On clicking, a file downloaded into my Winamp player and live commentary was on. I have become really hooked to it and although the series has seen only one satisfactory outing for the Indians, I have been able to keep track of what’s happening in the stadium.

So to list the Pros:

  1. The commentators are really good, with sound diction, control over the nuances of the game, and humor quotient is high as well. They take on the emails that they receive from the listeners(cricket@worldspace.com) live and respond to them.

  2. I can work, lounge, cook, roam around the house and still be aware of what’s happening in the match.

  3. The crowds cheers and boos in the background create an environment that suits the verbal flow also.

  4. By sending mails and having them answered by the commentators live keeps me involved and it’s good to hear your name too(no modesty at my end)

  5. The commentators Ari, Venky and the rest of the gang really make an effort to keep all listeners involved and contributing. Their words are also quite unbiased, unlike most commentators.

6.You could be anywhere at work or with friends, with family or alone. You can focus on whatever you need to do for a living undistratcted(eyes and hands working, only ears listening to the cricket) and still be aware of the latest score with all updates.

7.Better than cricinfo or for that matter any site giving out the latest score updates. Listen to it happen live.

8.The access is free! Now on to the cons: 1. Couldn’t find any Well I would suggest that more and more log into it and avail of this opportunity while you can.
