Choose MTNL, only when there is no other option

I have been using MTNL broadband for a no. of years. Earlier its speed was 256 kbps. Then they upgraded it to 512 kbps on their own.


My broadband plan is unlimited and I pay a rental for the MTNL modem.


Normally, the speed is so so. Sometimes it is fine and sometimes it is like pushing a cartwheel.


These days, all of a sudden a website that had been functioning well, stops and the message appears "server not found". It is a nightmare, if this message appears, at the time of online transaction, after entering all bank details and clicking on submit.


Then there were times when I used to write a long review or complaint etc. and hit on submit, if server not found message appeared, all my hard-work used to go in vain. Since then, I have made it a habit to select and copy the matter that I write, before I click on submit, just in case.


Another problem is MTNL’s customer care no. So, many times, when I dial 1504, I hear the announcement, "You have dialed the wrong no. or this facility is not there on your phone". Now what is there wrong to dial in 1504 or why won’t I have this facility when I’ve MTNL broadband?


After several attempts, I would manage to get the line. But wait, before I can speak to customer care, I am made to hear the announcement, "You can pay your bill online, using net banking.". Of course I know that, why do you waste my time, every time I dial 1504? You are more worried about payment of bills than about the kind of service, the user is getting?


A few times, customer care asked me to take off all modem & PC wires and insert the same again. I did that, with a lot of effort. When the problem still persisted, then they registered my complaint. Next day when the lineman called to attend the complaint and he heard that I had unplugged  all the wires and put them back when 1504 guy told me to, he asked me why I did that, "What if I had not plugged back the wires properly?"


Well, what should I do, when 1504 chap tells me to do? I can’t say no to him, can I? From then on, I just leave the complaint on IVR and let the lineman do his job.


I believe MTNL prices are low as compared to other service providers. But I hear the other service providers are also not so good, even at higher prices. I see no point in changing the plan or the service provider, to receive the same speed in reality.


So, I continue to struggle with MTNL and make most of it as much as I can.
