I was looking for installing a high speed internet connection at my home and had approached TATA for their photon+ service. Was surprised that they are not bothered for new business. I was informed that a customer service rep would get in touch with me with 72 hours, but the service rep finally got in touch with me after 2 weeks. By that time I had received MTNL connection. I was really amazed at the professional approach of MTNL guys. The phone line was activated the next working day and I also received a router the same day. They told me that their technical rep would come and install+ activate the connection. Since nobody used to be at home, we missed a couple of appointments with the technical rep. The following Sunday, I called up the helpline and checked whether I myself would be able to setup the connectivity. They agreed and also guided me to setup the connection. Within 15 minutes the setup was complete and the connection was active.
The price is also great. For Rs. 500 a month you get a landline+ broadband connectivity with unlimited download capacity+ wireless router. No free calls are included in this plan. You pay Rs 1.20 for each call you make. A great price considering MTNL. But this is just plan is just valid till 31-Mar-2010 and not sure whether it is available in Delhi. You need to make an upfront payment for Rs 500 and give an indentity proof and a residence proof.
Service: I have been using MTNL for quite some time now at my father’s home and was not too sure about the service availability as a lot of time you need to call up the helpline to get the connectivity. This is because their existing infrastructure is not capable to take the load. But again surprised, with this new connection, its been a week that I have been using it and still not a single call made to the service helpline(though too early to really evaluate the service and also be happy.:))
I would really recommend this service to any body who is a moderate internet user, does not require very fast connectivity speeds, does not require mobility.
MTNL guys have greatly improved. Now they just need to increase their bandwidth and capacity.
