*EMERGENCE OF MULTIPLEX CINEMAS AND ITS REPERCUSSION
Watching a movie in a single screen theatre is decreasing day by day and soon it may become a history. The reason behind it is the growth of Multiplex Cinemas, which started a decade ago. Initially the word ‘Multiplex’ was very new to few and unknown to most. Now we all know what it is. At its very inception Multiplexes was limited to big cities only, specially the metros only. But now it’s coming up in smaller cities also.
PVR(Priya Village Roadshow), the Multiplex Cinema Operator, came up with India’s 1st Multiplex Cinema called PVR Cinemas in New Delhi way back in 1997. In Delhi this PVR Cinema is better know as PVR Anupama. It was just the beginning, today there are ample numbers of Multiplexes all around the country. We have Inox, Adlabs, Fun Cinemas and many more. Multiplex Cinemas actually worked on its Picture Quality(Projection), Sound Quality(Dolby Digital Sound), Centrally Air-Conditioned and Better & Comfortable arrangements for sittings.
With the changing time people now-a-days are more ardent to develop their lifestyle. They want to enjoy the life wholeheartedly. Asking some of the regular visitor of Multiplexes, they say, “we earn to spend, and so multiplexes apart from any other thing is a big hit”.
Since the demand of single screen theatre is decreasing, so most of them are running in loss. This is why most of them are either has to pull their shutter down or give it for lease to the multiplex owners. Most of the single screen theatre was actually transformed to multiplexes in the preliminary stage, though it’s still being done but simultaneously new multiplex are also being constructed.
Interesting part of multiplex cinemas is that it has more than one screen, which I think is clear when we use the word ‘multi’. The range of screens starts from two to six to eight even more, depends on the size of the multiplex. Here different audis screens different movie, so people come here has a wide range of choice. Another plus point of multiplexes, specially the recent ones are situated mostly in the malls. It works like you buy one, get one free. You watch a movie; you get to hang-out in the malls for free. But that doesn’t mean you cannot visit a mall unless you watch a movie.
It is true that watching a movie in a multiplex is expensive but its truer that people in India is wise enough to understand the expense they occur is justified. As I would say that people here knows that, “as you sow, so shall you reap”.
