When I arrived from US last year, initially at the baggage claim area we were surrounded with porters asking for $20 so we can have a smooth transit through customs, which I refused.
At the customs I was harrassed and an amount of $500 was demanded.I had a coffee maker, on this basis they said it costs $300. We started bargaining, in that process the customs officials started taking things out of the box .I finally settled for $50 .I had to give the money to a nearby porter.
Isn’t anyone doing anything about this.I am ashamed at the filth India is moving towards.This situation has been happening and still happening.Many of my friends have gone through this.
This years trip I made my customs at Cochin when I flew Air India. It was simply great there.I salute Cochin customs.
Curses to those young budding customs officials for harrassing people. On top of all this the government is a innocent bystander.By the way the customs officials take only dollars, not rupees.
