Bollywood is a Practice Ground !! That’s what our director think. Any weird idea strikes their mind, they take our janata as granted and think that janata will also like it, they easily manage to cast good actors for their idea and they start making a film. After all Bollywood is a Play Ground!!
Background
The director of the movie, Mr. Apoorva Lakhia is not an exception. He dropped out of a filmmaking course in New York University to try his skills in Bollywood. Somehow he managed to assist Mira Nair on The Perez Family 12 years ago, he also assisted her while making Kamasutra. He also assisted Ang Lee on The Ice Storm and Andrew Davis on The Perfect Murder.(I just can’t believe it!!) And the best of all, he assisted Ashutosh Gowariker on Lagaan.
He might have learnt his theory lessons very well as the entry of our hero, heroin and villain is pretty traditional. Within first 5mins of the film, all the characters get initialized, Lara Datta is introduced with a song, Our Lagaan team mate Lakha is playing villain in this movie, he also gets introduced in a villainous way.(Rising from the water with music supporting in the back ground, the Ashoka way), and our hero enters with a blanket surrounded all over his face, bearing a dangerous look, as seen in TV promos. Good student!!
But he might not have learnt the main lesson that the movie should have a Story!!. Also a movie should follow a genre, it should be either comedy or action or thriller or romantic etc. It must not be a Khichadi. Believe me if he would have decided to make this film a ‘comedy movie’, it surely would have done a good business.
The movie
Mumbai se aaya mera dost is a story about a TV…yes TV. After spending some 10 long years in Mumbai, our Kanchi (Abhishek) returns his home. He has a gift for his loving and gr8 grandpa who has been awarded by the government for bringing electricity to this remote place. But this gift is a magic box for our bhole bhale gaonwale log. Their fascination continues till the end of the movie. Our poor hero must fall in love with the rich Kesar(lara), sister of our dangerous villain…so he does. In the climax he must motivate bhole bhale gaonwale to unite & fight against injustice…so he does. And the story must end happily after leaving the audience frustrate…so it does.
Please dont ask for more.
Positive side
Abhishek performs very well,
Lara exposes Xtreamly well,
All the other actors have performed well,
Please dont ask for more.
I think..
When I went to watch this movie, it was Friday night and I was very tired. I didn’t had any expectations from the movie, I just went to watch the work of a new director [and to review it on mouthshut :-)].
So I enjoyed the movie. Yes dear muneeb, I enjoyed the movie. Some comedy scenes really made me laugh. And as my motive was to pass time, it was fulfilled.
Last words
If you are a frequent movie watcher and a fan of typical Bollywood flicks, go for it. And if you are a person, who usually prefers a multiplex to watch some meaningful movies, please stay away from this movie. And at last, if you have not watched your Tv set since long time, watch this movie. Believe me youll never watch Tv again.
