If I had to recommend a Kannada movie to some one, the first movie in the recent past that would come to my mind is Mungaaru Male(rain). Like everyone else who has watched this I too was blown away by the simplicity of this movie. It just changed how movies were made in the Kannada film industry. It literally made people mad!!
The movie begins as a simple love story, guy falls for a girl, as fate would have it, he lands up in her house for her marriage, but our hero is determined to win the girl and her family. Eventually the girl also falls for him. Sounds familiar? The beauty of mungaaru male lies in what happens after this, and the whole message the movie is trying to give.
There are many factors which sets this apart from other movies.. Firstly the fresh treatment, it can give serious competition to any movie of today, Secondly the dialogues, to me the dialogues are the real hero of this movie, especially that scene where the hero confesses his love, ( I can say any girl would fall for that :P ) thirdly the music which is popular even today and the amazing lyrics to go with. Fourthly the breathtaking locales captured!!
I have not met a single person who was not mesmerized by this movie, every body of all age groups enjoyed it. In fact I personally know many people who can tell all the dialogues as it is :P and have seen this movie several times.
This movie made Ganesh an over night star, the whole cast of the movie have played out their parts fantastically well. All of them are seasoned actors here, so there isn’t much to complain about the performances.
As far as I am concerned I am all for happy endings! The climax of the movie disturbed me a little, as I said earlier, the climax is what makes mungaaru male what it is, some would argue that’s the best part, but I would have preferred a happy ending.
As far as the people who know Kannada I am sure everyone would have watched it by now :-) but even if you don’t know the language you should give it a try!! So please go and get drenched in the rain of love :-)
