Films come , Films go. The Indian film industry is churning out hundreds of films on a yearly basis in the modern era, and yet very few of them are remembered later. The same is applicable for their music, even though they turn out to be superhits and remain on top of the chartbusters for quite a long time.
The films and songs of the 50s, 60s and 70s era are typically unmatched in terms of rhythm and melody, although technically speaking, todays film and pop music have got an upper hand in terms of beats, music as well as other sound qualities. The music of the 50s, 60s and 70s era are absolutely immortal and are exclusively remembered by the people who lived in that generation. For instance, My father and grandpa still love to listen to the melodies/songs of that era. The same is the case in millions of homes all across India. In fact, these songs are so popular that todays generation creates a remix of them, adding a touch of glamour and dance to it.
But the songs of the 90s and 2000s are seldom remembered by the masses, inspite of having very good music, rhythm and melody.
One such film which has been completely forgotten is Sanjay Guptas Musafir, which released in 2004 starring Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Sameera Reddy and Koena Mitra. The music of this film can be considered outstanding if not mind blowing. This is one film where almost all the songs can be considered hits. Be it Ishq Kabhi Kario Na, Sakki Saaki, Rabba and its remix versions, Sun Suniyo or Door Se Paas. All are fabulous.
Below, I am referring to each of these songs both picturised as well as the music/lyrics.
Coming to the first superhit - Ishq Kabhi Kariyo Na composed by Anand Raaj Anand and sung by the talented and versatile Sunidhi Chauhan. Shot on the exotic beaches of Goa and picturised on Sameera Reddy, its a true rock-buster with an excellent touch. Its remix is sung by Sukhwinder Singh.
The second one - Saaki Saaki sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan and picturised on Koena Mitra and Sanjay Dutt is a Sufi styled song with western musical arrangement. The lyrics are very powerful. In fact, the tune of the song may haunt you even after the album ends.
Door Se Pass is another rocking track sung by the master singer K.K and picturised on Sameera Reddy in a discotheque. I feel that the combo of the singers voice, music, lyrics as well as the dance are terrific enough to stay in your memory for quite a long time.
Rabba, again picturised on Sameera Reddy is a slow romantic number and sung by Richa Sharma. The lyrics are given by Dev Kohli and Kumar. Its remix versions are sung by Krishna and Sukhwinder Singh. The remix versions are truly rocking, especially the one sung by Krishna.
Next, the Sanjay Dutt starrer Tez Dhaar makes the actor exercise his own vocal chords for the song.DJ Aqeel is the man behind the music. The lyrics are given by Vishal and Milap Zhaveri. The album also includes a remix version of the song.
Phir Na Kahna is another slow romantic duet sung by Kumar Sanu and Sunidhi Chauhan. Its picturised on Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy. Both the singers have done quite a good job.Sunidhi does it well enough for her to be mistaken as another singer. The remix version scores over the original.
Another entertainer Sun Suniyo picturised on Koena Mitra is sung by Hema Sardesai, who had made her debut with Indipop numbers. She sings the number with absolute ease adding to the glamour and touch of the music.
Finally, Ek DIl Ne is another soft romantic track.Kunal Ganjawala and the very sweet Shreya Ghoshal have lent their voice to it. I am not sure whether the song appears anywhere in the movie itself, but it is a true melody.
On the whole, Musafir scores quite well in terms of its music and picturisation.Although the movie itself may not meet the standards of its music, the album is a super duper entertainer.
So, Check it out!
