Albums of Rammstein post ’Mutter’ sound totally different. Mutter was the last album which had the classic (did I say raw?) Rammstein elements(others being ’Herzeleid’ and ’Sehnsucht’).
The music in the album is heavy. Not just ’loud’ heavy but HEAVY heavy. You can’t just repeatedly listen to the album. Don’t get me wrong. It’s not just loud guitars and heavy drumming.
And the guitars are .. I don’t know how to put this.... they are medieval..it’s a totally different sound.
There are these mixture of emotions which are dealt with in the album. Be it anger(Ich Will) or love (Nebel) or anger again(zwitter). The remarkable thing about the album is how the music goes for each song. I always remember this album as being one where the music is built so perfectly for the song. I actually started learning
German after listening to this album. :)) ... and so many lyrics are stuck in my head:
Zwitter : ’’Ich bin zu verleibt’’ (I’m so in love with myself) or Links 2 3 4 ’’Da schlägt es in der linken brust
Der neider hat es schlecht gewusst’’ (The heart beats in my left chest. The envious have not known it well)
There were controversies about Links 2 3 4 (Left 2 3 4 : the military march) since it sounded like a nazi song (The Left/Right wing). There was also some press that Till pronouced some words like Hilter!
The music and lyrics complement each other so well. It’s like they are co-dependent.
In one word Mutter is brilliant.
