I often wish I could make a list of movies that I could call all time movies to include those that I could pick any time and enjoy every time! Am sure many of us have felt that way. Well, I started making a list mentally and added some like A few good men, Heat, Hera Pheri, Golmaal, Sholay...and ofcourse, My Cousin Vinny. The last is a no frills movie - simple and serene. Starcast is not too impressive and the storyline not really unique..but the movie is real fun to watch.
Why this review now on such an old movie - well, I happened to watch it yet again recently and so here I go...
Storyline is about these two youngsters who plan on making a trip to Alabama (now theres a place Ive been hearing strange things about!) and are driving down. They stop by a convenience store and as most of us college going folks would agree, are choosing budget items so that they manage the pennies. One of them ofcourse takes a chance by sneaking a bottle of it-doesnt-matter-what into his pocket and forgets to pay for it. On seeing it in hte car, the other guy is not too happy and all.
Next thing, they see cops chasing and are taken into custody for interrogation. The guilt on their minds is overwhelming and they assume thats what they are in for. They agree to the cops without realizing what the charges were and then....they need a lawyer. Being broke and out of their hometown, they discover that one of them has a cousin called Vinny in the same town.
In comes Joe Pesci as Vinny for a memorable role. Hes never fought and won a case but takes this one up. He is not polished as is clear in the court but has that unique thing (hell, Ive seen it in quite a few people - so read unique in quotes) which makes his mind race ahead at the 11th hour. The courtroom drama is quite exciting with Vinny getting his fiancee as a star witness to testify on car makes and models. I guess you will agree I am not doing much justice with words (if you have already watched it) or will agree after you have watched it. Im not about to ruin the fun by elaborating more than this at the moment. I can only assure - it is time well spent on this movie.
