GANDHI'S GREATNESS

M.K Gandhi’s autobiography MY EXPERIMENTS WITH TRUTH is written in Augustan style , all of the incidents narrated being confessional. But all those incidents as the title goes are his experiments with truth. He has given complete picture of his life highlighting all aspects - physical(his experiments with dietics and naturopathy) , intellectual(his meetings with Gokhale and other dignitaries) , moral(his internal conflicts and compromises with Kasturba his wife) and spiritual(hi indomitable faith in god).

Friends let me here concentrate on those events which according to me made him a Mahatma- a title given to him by Rabindranath Tagore. It is none other than the vow of chastity, the satyagraha and his Ahimsa[non violence]. I leave the reader to read these chapters from the book. Further his journeys in third class compartments and his struggles in South Africa went on to make him the peace apostle of the world.

I strongly recommend the readers two books UNTO THIS LAST by JOHN RUSKIN and CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE by HENRY THOREAU - two books which influenced Gandhi for a moral fight against all injustices and falsehood.

I consider this book much more sacred than all other religious books , for there you find only words but here you find those words being implemented.
