This movie is the story of a specially challenged individual who sees the world slightly differently than most of us chose to and through his story inspires and awakens that which has gone to sleep in the majority of the human populace. Today’s world mirrors a majority of humanity who has through practice and conditioning learnt the art of the politically correct thing to be said and done in a particular scenario and has chosen to forget that subtle voice of reason within.
But Rizwan Khan knows none of this as he finds it difficult to interact with people and understand the right things to be said and done at the right time .Hence he ends up saying the truth, awkward and difficult to digest as it challenges the hidden hypocrite in us constantly. Rizwan Khan is a man of few words but his actions speak louder than any words can. He understands the essence of life, the language of love, even though he is unable to express the deep and unconditional love he feels lacking a normal ability of social interaction let alone the power to influence through the gift of the gab.
The movie is astounding in the simple truths that it states which are more relevant today when we are at the brink of a much needed change in approach towards the problems facing humanity, truths that are often difficult to imbibe and appear to be simplistic solutions but hide great profoundness because the application of these truth requires a greatness of spirit and a pure soul, of a love for humanity that stems from the real love that mystic across the world have always spoken of. It talks of a journey that each one of us has to take individually, a journey within!
As in most case with people who believe and embody true humility and greatness of spirit his life is full of challenges made more difficult due to his special challenges but who takes whatever comes his way , the good and the bad in his stride and keeps walking on without ever calculating the results of his action .
Being different from a normal being his character appears strange and stilted and is misunderstood by most people including this wife. But his struggle and his attitude and love shine forth in his journey as he walks on holding on to his beliefs and to his goodness which finally moves every other character’s heart in the movie as well as the audience watching the film who after the interval and towards the end of the film cant help but fall head over heels in love with Rizwan Khan.
The fact that the character can leave such an impression is proof enough of the acting done by Shahrukh in this film. We don’t see the King Khan, we only see a good man who believes in the good virtues.
The movie speaks at various levels and though on the surface it is a man’s unconditional love for the woman in his life it is also a story of innate goodness in each one of us, the potential for love that is in each one of us which is what can shape the future of the human race by the choices that we will be forced to make in the years to come. We can counter violence and the resultant angst it creates in those wronged by the violence and those witnessing the wrongs and feeling helpless at the injustice in the world of the 21st century by allowing ourselves to feel love and compassion for all of life letting our innate goodness bring about the much needed change in the world order today. But the path of real and all encompassing love is extremely slow in showing results and often strewn with a lot of hardships to the run up of its ultimate supremacy of bringing about permanent change and will take a huge shift in thinking and attitude of the human populace to be able to use it wisely to the benefit of all of humanity.
Hats off to Shahrukh Khan and Karan Johar and everybody else associated with the movie for having faith in its message and for making an attempt to be heard.
