Everyone has their own list of favourite web sites.
However, since I often visit some sites that are not so
well known (never figured in other MS member lists of
their fav sites), I thought I should present to you some
sites definitely worth a visit.
They are in no particular order. And Ive spelt the names in Proper Case for easy reading.
Presenting to you 10 of my most favourite yet not so wellknown websites:-1. UpperStall.COM
Interested in reading about classic Indian movies & biographies of well known film personalities from the bygone as well as recent era ? Then this site is for you. A brilliant idea, the information on this site is very well researched and presented. Use the dropdown menus at the right of the home page and select topics from any four categories..Movies, Luminaries, Documentary and Chronology. Ive spend many an hour reading the pages. Great nostalgic stuff.
2. CrimeLibrary.COM
Definitely not for the faint hearted. This site features information about all the notorious serial killers, gangsters and other criminals. Excellently researched, a must site for people interested in detective & crime stories and for those working in the field of law. Also features the entire story about Charles Sobhraj. Though the story about Raman Raghav, Mumbais infamous serial killer is missing (His story never appears anywhere on the net), this site is worth a dekho for the other chilling true stories.
3. Zinos.COM
A wonderful site. Similar in ideas to Mouthshut. But with a broader perspective (No offense meant to this site. I love MS very very much). One can post ones poems, short stories, business tips etc or simply read through the various articles. Click on the list of topics at the left and spend hours reading the articles. Updated on a daily basis.
4. BarkingSpidersPoetry.com
What a big name for a site meant for small people :-)
An excellent site for kids created by C.J.Heck who has written some of the most beautiful poetry for children on this site. The poems will take you back to your childhood, make you laugh and sometimes bring a tear to your eyes. I dont know if this site is updated on a regular basis but it has lots of beautiful poems and a good background kids music too.
5. DimDima.com
Another site for children but an Indian one this time. Will make you wonder why my list contains kids sites..am I a kid ? :-)
But this is worth a mention because it has good things to do for kids. Adults too can spend quality time reading nice little stories in their Evergreen stories section. Well designed and definitely worth a look.
6. OneSmartClick.com
This site is perhaps wellknown. A Great site created single- handedly by an engineer, Mr Prashant Mhatre. This site features Excellent information about all things Indian. Information ranging from advice for Engineering students, to interview tips, reference books, jokes, shayari, poems...everything. A really great effort by this simple guy. A few popups may appear but thats okay. After all he is keeping the wonderful site up on his own funds. Site is 100% worth a dekho.
7. Pbs.ORG
Another of my most favourite sites. This site is maintained by PBS Channel, a wellknown American channel for general information. When you visit this site, use the dropdown menu at the very top labelled as Explore. Select a topic, say History. A whole list of links shall appear. Some of them have information about a related program while some of them have text information about the topic. Explore the links of your selected topic. You wont be disappointed.
8. FunTrivia.COM
Like quizzes ? Then this site is a must for you. It has a huge list of topics to select from. And each topic has many quizzes which have been pre-rated like Easy, Average & Tough. And the tough is really tough :-(
Good site for increasing your G.K besides having fun.
9. Click2Amuse.COM
The name says it all. A site to visit whenever youre truly bored. Lots of amusing puzzles, games and optical illusions. Good entertainment.
The last site in my list. Very difficult choice. Surely Mouthshut.com should feature here. But by default, MS is a great site. Also Im not featuring sites like google since they are already wellknown. So keeping with the title of my review..my 10th site is:-10. HowStuffWorks.COM
Another awesome site where one can spend hours and hours. Ever wondered how things we take for granted like the Espresso machine, quartz watches, scanners...you name it, work ? This site gives excellent information about hundreds of items of daily use in a simple, concise and wonderful way. Coloured Diagrams show the mechanism of the gadgets. So now you can get replies to your always-wanted-to-ask questions.
So given above were the ten sites I love very much. Visit them and let me know if I was wrong in including them in this list.
Ciao.
