Life Sometimes Is NOT GOOD!!!

I have looked at this topic several times over this past year and I truly wondered if I could actually tell people about foods that I truly hate. And so I have decided to do so. I am human just like the rest of you, I have feelings and I have taste buds that have feelings. In fact my taste buds know pretty darn quick when they taste something they seem to think is awful! And I do agree with my taste buds. If it’s nasty, it’s nasty! And that’s all there is to it.

Now living in the Southern States of the United States, some of you may think that I should like some of these foods, that is, if you know what these foods are. And some of you may think that I am crazy to even mention such foods. And yet some of you may even think that I am out of my mind for not liking some of these foods. Well to each there own!!! Okay!!!

Mustard Greens

In the south and well I guess pretty much all over the States there is a vegetable that is grown called Mustard Greens. It grows on top of the ground in a leafy fashion and of course is green.   The roots are in the ground but not very deep. It doesn’t take long for the plant to grow and you can plant them in the spring as well as later summer and fall. You simply break them off their vine/plant to pick them. You have to wash them repeatedly until all the dirt is off. Then you cook them in about a cup to 2 cups of water, some salt and seasoning until tender. THEY ARE THE WORST THINGS GOD EVER LET GET MADE!!! How in the world anyone can put these things in their mouths is beyond me!

Turnip Greens

Sister/brother to mustard greens, which ever you prefer. Planted the same time of year and grows the same way. The difference is the turnip. Yeah you heard me. The turnip. What’s that you say? Well, it’s the part that grows under the ground, the root so to speak. And when people pick the turnip leaf, they pull up the root. People cook this turnip with the leaf. Salting and seasoning as taste allows (no taste allowed for me.) and then they eat them. Things stink too while cooking! Gives me the chills thinking about the nasty things. People will put the turnips in with the greens to season or they will make some kind of soup out of them.

Collard Greens

This is yet another horrible tasting veggie! They are grown the same way as the mustard and turnip greens and picked, cleaned and cooked in the same manner. The difference is the leaf and the taste. The collard green has a more bitter taste than the mustard and turnip greens. Nasty is nasty in my book and this one is nasty!

Squash

Another southern favorite for most people but not this southern girl! This plant grows into a bush that sprouts yellow objects that are called squash. When I was a kid I thought they were to be stepped on and squashed (well it was their name!) Anyway, you pick them, wash them and then cook them. You can fry them, bake them in casseroles, put into soup (which is not so bad), and other dishes that I don’t want to know about. This vegetable taste nasty to me as well.

Asparagus

Now some of you really like this veggie, but not me! Never can get the things done enough for me! I think they are supposed to have a hard texture to them after getting cooked. I don’t like anything that is rubbery feeling or tasting in my mouth!

Cucumbers

Another favorite by most people but not me! They are planted in the spring and fall and grow above ground sprouting out from a leafy plant. They are easy to pick and clean, green in color with little warts on them. They are peeled and sliced or just sliced after cleaning and people will dip them in various sauces or put on salads or just eat alone. I don’t like the way they smell or taste! They are nasty in my book!

Zucchini

Another not so favorite of mine. They grow similar to the cucumber and squash, except they get really long and really fat looking! They are prepared in the same manner as the cucumber and squash.

Green Peas

Or better known as Garden Peas perhaps to some people! Well no matter they are horrible! And I don’t understand how anyone can eat them. They grow above the grown into a plant and you pick them, shell them, clean them and cook them. They are used in soups, salads, stews and various other dishes. They have a horrible, bitter taste and just look horrible! I will not eat them. If I find them in my food I will pick them out! my mother made me sit at the dinning room table once for over 3 hours in order to get me to eat these nasty things, but to no avail! I opted for a spanking instead, which I didn’t think was fair because I had to sit for so long staring at the ugly things and that should have been punishment enough for not wanting them in the first place.

Minestrone Soup

Now I know a lot of people love this type of soup but I can’t stand it! It has those squash and zucchini’s and other stuff in it that I can’t stand! It has weird taste to it for a soup. I don’t even know how to describe it to ya’ll because I didn’t like it. And it smells bad.

Eggplant Custard/pie

Yeah you heard me right. There are people who actually make a pie out of eggplant. It is the worse thing in a dessert that a person can put into their mouths. And let me tell ya, if the smell doesn’t run you off then the taste surely will! I can also tell ya this as well, if the pie is not prepared correctly, then you will become nauseated by the smell of it. It’s not quiet as bad as a rotten egg, but really close. Surely to goodness the cook can tell that the pie was not prepared correctly by the smell, but some cooks ignore that smell, convincing themselves that its suppose to be that way! People get sick with this one! Leave it alone!

Now some of you are probably wondering if I eat veggies at all! Well of course I do, just not the ones listed above. I am sometimes a picky eater but not to often. I know what I like and what I don’t! There are many other things that I don’t like but not enough space to list them all.

You know they say your taste buds change every 7 years, well mine have not to the above foods! And I don’t suppose that they will! I don’t like to torture my taste buds any more than necessary. They have the tendency to hold a grudge against me by leaving a bad taste in my mouth from time to time. A punishment I call it in retaliation for me putting bad food in my mouth to start with!

I do love to cook and there are family members who like/love some of the above and I do cook them for my family. If they love um then what is a girl to do? Put up with it I suppose. Love is unconditional ya know!

Well there you have it! 10 of my least favorite foods. There are more mind you, but these are the top-ten!

I hope that this has helped in some kind of way.

God Bless!
