The ''Naam'' didn't ''Gumning''.

I had spring break last week and decided to bring a drama home. My mother brought “Naam Gum Jaayega”. I had heard from word of mouth that this was a good drama.

The story is about 2 girls named Priyanka and Zeenat, one being Muslim and one Hindu. Their family doctor finds out that they were switched at birth. Priyanka was born in the Muslim family, and Zeenat was born in the Hindu family, while they practiced opposite religions.

Destiny gives them a chance to meet. Both find out about the mistake. Priyanka is getting married and a man who hates Muslims finds out that Priyanka was born a Muslim. He tells everyone on her wedding day, and the story twists from there. It’s funny how after the wedding incident the drama didn’t really have anything to do with the title. Their “Naams” didn’t “Gumning”. So why the stretch? I don’t know. The story goes all weird. In the end, they only show Priyanka’s happy ending. They don’t show what ever happens to Zeenat, all they say is she’ll find herself a nice man, because she was cheated by a guy. Well not really cheated, the guy was forced to get married to some other girl.

Anyway, one thing I really liked about this drama was that it wasn’t biased. It didn’t show that Muslims are the only ones who hate. It always showed that someone from both religions was causing the problem. Like for example, when Priyanka was to be married, first they show that her birth mother, who is a Muslim, didn’t approve of the wedding because the boy was Hindu. Then it shows that Priyanka’s soon to be Nand’s Sasur is against the wedding because Priyanka was born a Muslim. In this drama, it’s not just the Muslims, it’s the Hindus too.

There was one thing that kind of left me questioning. In the drama the Hindu fanatic, who was Priyanka’s soon to be Nand’s Sasur, fought with Zeenat’s Chacha saying it was war against them. They never showed any kind of fighting or argument between them. What ever happened to that idea?

One thing I liked was that Priyanka was married both in the Hindu and Muslim way. One thing I don’t like is why is Zeenat wearing low cut necklines? She’s a Muslim and she’s supposed to wear decent clothing! Priyanka didn’t wear low cut necklines, and she’s Hindu. She’s allowed to, so why Zeenat?

Overall, this drama was good. The only bad thing was the ending. It was too basic, they should have expanded on it a little more. The ending just came too soon.
