I am not the same man ( Naan Avan Illai).....

Well, I am not a movie buff and the number of films that I have watched in the last ten years at the cinema theaters might be 12 to the maximum.

So what makes a person who is not go serious about watching movies, write a review on this movie? . Because, it’s different. Yes, like all movies, the masala stuff is here and with five heroines pairing with the hero, it’s bound to be there. **But what lifts up this film is the story and the screen play.

Before I forget, this film is a remake of a film from the great K.Balachandar in the yesteryears with the same name.

The movie starts with a young man being chased by the police after getting a complaint from 4 women( Malavika,  Jyothirmayi, Keerthi Chawla and Namita) .  He manages to escape in a bus, but the bus overturns and he gets admitted in the hospital. The police identify and arrest him.

They investigate and find that our hero-villan( Jeeva) had deployed different methods to cheat these girls. He does all these for money after misguided by his mentor.

First he poses himself as a business magnet in London, to a model( Malavika) and runs away with the huge amount of money.

Next he goes to kerala and taking advantage of the fact that Jyothirmayi is not willing to marry the boy selected by her parents, he cleverly disguises himself and escapes the marriage house with Jyothimayi. After getting all the jewels and money from her, he absconds.

Getting to know of the interests of painting for Sneha( a leading Judge’s daughter), he now becomes a renowned artist named zakir hussain and robs her with a huge sum by giving her a blank painting.

Then, he poses himself as a god man named hariharadas, cheats Keerthi Chawla and her mom  and then marries Keerthi Chawla only to leave her and runs away with the huge money looted from the ashram.

Namitha, an industrialist who is fed up with her husband, finds Jeevan good and slowly develops a soft corner for him. But his eye is on the money.

The lifeline of the movie is in the court scene where Jeeva refutes all the charges against him intelligently. Whenever these girls accuse him of his misdeeds, he cleverly wangles them very easily and makes these charges a no case. He calls himself as Annamalai and by all his cleverness and intelligence, overcomes all the tests from police including nacro analysis. He keeps repeating every time “ Naan Avan illai" which means “I am not the person you are looking for”. He also manages to clear a DNA test!

As expected, the charges against him are not proved completely and hence he gets acquitted. What happens next is the climax.

Jeeva does the role with ease. Clear expressions and very good body language is a very big plus for him. He looks it make very simple.

All the heroines compete in glamour and try to do some acting.

Songs are really ok types. I don’t remember even one of them.

Director Selva has shown his maturity in the film. He substantiates his claim about the cleverness of the hero with fitting incidents and arguments and also shows how the hero can do it, at the end of the film.

Photography is also very good.

There are some scenes here and there where logical thinking may not make sense, but it’s acceptable and they are also not many. for e.g. even after marrying 3 to 4 times, our hero manages to stop from being photographed in the marraige. Director tries to justify this, but it’s certainly not possible.

Overall, a very different and wonderful movie worth watching.
