I had an unfortunate-frivolous eye accident while playing badminton and had to be immediately rushed to Rajajinagar Narayana Nethralaya. The emergency doctor calmed me down, but I was very apprehensive about loosing my right eye. I had a Scleral tear in my right eye and it had to be operated. Initially my conversation with Dr. Yatish(surgeon who operated me) was more about the immediate need of the hour. I repeatedly kept asking him whether I will have vision once again in my life, but he was at his diplomatic best! At every step he would let me know what he was going to do, and this did change whether he was treating me in OT or at a regular check-up. Overall, it was a very good experience and in my limited experience I can claim that if Dr. Yatish is treating, then you are in safe hands.
But here comes the interesting part! Usually, Dr. Yatish is very terse, but that never stopped me from asking him stupid questions. Like after the operation, I asked when can I get back to work; can I go for a jog, when I will be ride vehicle etc. Everytime, he used to give me witty-sarcastic response which would make me cringe, yet bring a smile on my face.
I will be submitting my PhD thesis within a month and Dr. Yatish will have a special acknowledgment from my side. Thats the best thanking note that I can extent from my side. Apart from that, I always knew about the professionalism of doctors but I personally experienced it during my treatment at Narayana Nethralaya. This interaction with Dr. Yatish is probably the only silver lining of my unfortunate accident. A BIG THANKS ONCE AGAIN!
One small complaint on medical certificate to apply for leave at work place:
Narayana Nethralaya has a policy for medical certificate that specifies 15 days leave. But in my case, I was in no way able to work in 15 days. I had to apply for extension for my thesis submission. But, a 15 day leave certificate made no sense, as I was not able to look at computer screens for close to 45 days. I explained my problem, but it was not considered. I think the number of days of leave has to be on a case by case basis and not a blanket-rigid 15 days leave policy. I think the management has to re-examine this policy.
