This is a fantastic movie theatre and probably the most economical hall I have ever visited. It is located near Exide, Kolkata hence is very to commute without any transport difficulties.
It is not a multiplex and has a single screen. The picture quality is very good, bright and clear. The screen is curved which increases the viewing angle while the sound quality is very soothing although a bit on the lower side. The hall has a capacity of approximately 400 spread over a ground floor and a balcony. The seats are wooden but comfortable. The hall is well decorated, state of the art with domed shaped roof and air conditioned.
What makes this hall different from others is the ticket price. Since it is Government funded, the ticket prices vary from 30-50 rupees. Imagine getting so much facilities only for a nominal fee.
Nandan cinema is a legacy bearer of Kolkatas rich heritage of movie culture. It is something different in terms of the ambience and you will clearly get a vibe of belonging ness to its legacy once you go there. It is the hub for film stars who regularly visit there to promote and watch their movies.
Most importantly, the Kolkata International Film Festival is held every year at Nandan which is inaugurated by buggies like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and screens movies from around the world starting from Hollywood actions to Turkish documentaries. It is cultural commonplace for cinema makers from around the world.
The entire complex of Nandan is such a calming place to be. The campus is filled with greenery, water fountains and has shops for food requirements so that people can sit there and spend some quality time just like in a picnic. It is beautiful and heart warming to be at Nandan cinema.
