Mere Naseen Mein

Whenever the remix song Mere Naseeb Mein is played on different

music channels it reminds me of the movie NASEEB. Leave alone the

movie, after 25 years even the remix version cannot be compared with

the original song.

I saw this movie first time as a kid with my parents and still

remembered enjoying every scene of it. I just wonder how come I

would be the first person in MS to review

it. I would rate NASEEB as Manmohan Desai’s career best film, above

Amar Akbar Anthony, Coolie or Desh Premee.

It was indeed a real multistarrer with stars like Amitabh, Hema

Malini, Rishi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Reena Roy, Pran and a host

of villains from Khader Khan, Amjad Khan, Prem Chopra, Shatki Kapoor

and few comedians like Mukri, Asrani, Guddi Maruti, Keshto Mukherjee.

Its the story of a drunkard who doesn’t have money to repay hotel

bill and does a barter with the waiter for a lottery ticket which

turns out to be the winner. The waiter Namdev (Pran) shares his

story o fortune with his friends Jaggi (Jagdish Raj Anand), Raghu

(Khader Khan) and Damodar (Amjad Khan). In greed they murder Jaggi

and put the blame on the poor waiter. Namdev is supposed to have

committed suicide after murdering Jaggi and the case is closed.

Time passes by and many years later Raghu and Damodar are successful

hotelier and John Jani Janardhan JJJ (Amitabh Bachchan) is a waiter

in their hotel. He was brought up by his foster mother Mrs. Gomes

(Lalita Pawar) along with Julie. Vikki (Shatrughan Sinha), son of

Damodhar is in England and happens to meet Asha (Hema Malini) who is

a singing sensation from India. He falls for her whereas in India

Julie is waiting for Vikki as she has fall in love with him.

Asha comes to India and sings in the same hotel in which JJJ works

as waiter. Here they both fall in love. And we have another pair

Sunny(Rishi Kapoor) and Kim (kim) who studies in the same college.

Kim is the daughter of Jaggi.

In the end we have things sort out and JJJ is paired for Asha, Vikki

for Julie and Sunny for Kim.

The highlight of this film was the song John Jani Janardhan where we

have almost the entire film industry featured in the song that was

dedicated to Mohd Rafi and the climax that was shot in a revolving

restaurant.

A very masala Manmohan Desai movie with good story, performance,

music and comedy (which is essence of any Man movie). Any Amitabh

and Man fan would never miss it.
