National geographic channel is one of those rare channels, which showcases the warmth of Mother Nature with all its glory.
As part of their continuing efforts to showcase the nature they fund scientists to explore into the distinct past and fascinating questions, which is not answered. The compiled feature is showcased on the National Geographic channel as National Geographic Special.
Continuing this great tradition in December they showcase trace the roots of the Super Crocodile the ancestral of the now a days crocodile, which prowled the earth about 110 million years ago. It hunted on the dinosaurs and was capable of killing a full grown male.
Fascinating discoveries were made about the super croc when they found a fossil of the super crocodile in the early 90s. To explore more on this and to reconstruct a full fossil model of the Super Crocodile National Geographic Channel engaged the five most renowned guys in the world who have dedicated their life to crocodile research.
They go out to all the corners of the world (Costa Rica, Cuba, India) to understand the basic qualities of the reptile. These data collected include the reactive nature of the crocodile to hostile attacks and the impact of their bite. They come across some interesting discoverys like the bite of a fully grown South American crocodile is 1800 pounds (which is like the load of small pick up truck) and the jaws of the Indian crocodile (garihall) is the most closest to that of the Super Crocodile.
Some of the interesting facts that I personally liked was it cleared all my mis-conception about the crocodiles (especially after watching a movie like lake placid on Friday) that they attack humans and very aggressive in nature actually they are very lazy creatures and they cant be aggressive fop more then a few minutes in a day they are relatively clam creatures.
Well some of the facts that finally came of the program were most amazing the super crocodiles not only moved with the dinosaurs they ate them. The bite of the Super Crocodile was not less then 18, 000 pounds. They were 35 feet long and weighed closet to five tons.
The modern day crocodiles are the nearest to the dinosaurs we could ever get. So next time you see a crocodile remember its too good to be scared off.
