Is this channel really needed?

Try asking yourself this question, is this channel really needed? Today, we are floodded with all these news channels, and this channel has specially made a mockery of news gathering and reporting.

NDTV started out as a refreshing change from the dull and drab method of doordarshan, when it launched The World This Week more than a decade ago. People like Appan Menon, Rajdeep, Barkha Dutt and Vikam Chandra made NDTV stand out. Agreed that there werent so many news channels at that time, but the investigative journalism didn’t existed at that time. It was these people who brought it to our media.

But ever since this hindi version of NDTV has been launched, it has made a mockery of such good deeds of the past. Look at their newscasters for example, almost all of them stutter and stammer. Without wishing to name any of them, I say that almost everybody fail to read a sentence at least once in every news bulletin. One would like to ask whats the need for a hindi channel.

They could have done well with the old format with which they were broadcasting on Star News previously. Getting an english and then a hindi bulletin in an hour can help easily in covering a full day of programming.

What turns a viewer off is the number of commercial breaks that this channel has in comparison to Aaj Tak or Star News. Or maybe, the other channels are able to cover more news between two commercial breaks while we see at least 5 breaks in a half hour news bulletin on this channel.

Overall I would say that NDTV would have been better off with only one channel. That would have meant that they had the right mix of programming which would have held the viewer’s interest for a longer time. For me, this channel is a total waste of money.
