I contacted Nerolac paints for getting my home painted. I was expecting that they would do a better job than our local contractor. The executive promised me that they cover all the furniture and ensure that nothing gets damaged. They even insist that painting should be done last. I had wooden work done in my rooms. It was polished and the only job left was paint job.
Until I made the payment the response from the executive was great. I was thrilled at that time. I believed them that they would take care of the finishing and would regularly supervise the work. Nerolac gave the order to a local contractor who claims that he is trained by Nerolac for such work.
To my surprise he subcontracted it. This came as a slip of tongue from the contractor. At this point I had already paid the money and could do nothing but wait and watch. The site where painting was being done is vacant and so I promptly gave the keys to the contractor.
From day 1 I had been after him to cover the entire polish work. He cover 80% of the polish work. Finally the thing I dreaded most happened. Some of the exposed polish work was coated with primer. He said the primer which landed on the polish which was left open would come off.
I still persisted and demanded that the polish work be properly covered. He continued with his painting and closed the work one evening. He mentioned that the paint and primer which got on the polish was removed.
When I checked, the paint and primer was gone, but along with that the polish was also gone. Apparently they used turpentine or something to get rid of the primer and polish. Next day he got his polish person to fix it. That guy said that he cannot get the finish that existed earlier.
The polish was originally done with spray mechanism. I was disappointed with the thought that now I need to get that redone at my cost. There were other problems like one of the ceilings did not look good enough after the final coat. Its seemed as if only one coat of paint was applied. The contractor agreed to it. There were places where they stuck protective tapes. When the painter peeled it he did not take care and some part of the paint also came off.
I had got the ceiling done with POP so that I could enjoy an absolutely flat ceiling. The putty overcoats were not applied evenly and the celing and one wall became wavy. Now the latest problem is that they havent returned my house key and they do not answer my calls. The contractor and the executive both ignore my calls.
The good thing is that I gave the contract for only one room. Im lucky that I did not sign the contract for the entire house paint job. Guys the lesson is that it better to give the job to a local painter, he is depended on your reference for his next job. He will get the job done to your satisfaction. He will incorporate your feedback while he is on the job. For big companies we are just another small customer and it really does not matter to them.
