Etiquettes on Emailing !

When we are dependent on computers to do lot of works for us, we need to know some email etiquette . Now a days, email has become as much a part of our lives as the telephone . It does takes so much of our time every day .

According to the Yankee group , a research firm, there are 263 million email boxes in the world . According to surveys , the number of emails sifted through in a day by an average worker is about 30. This again depends on individual’s usage of emails. The number of emails I received yesterday was 153 ! This is not always the case though ! Thank God!

Dealing with email takes it’s own special etiquette. One of the biggest problems are the huge attachments that people send with email. This can clog up an overburdened system . Sometimes , it takes ages to download on a conventional dial-up connection.

If you see the attachment infected with any virus , you have to deleat it atonce .That’s what I do! Our computer is more important than the attached messages we get.

You should remember to be polite while writing emails. Writing everything in capital letters is cyber equivalent of shouting !

Not everyone on your email list will be happy to get latest jokes you’ve found on the net. Spare your friends and colleagues your own version of spam! Otherwise, you are just flooding their mail boxes with junk mail. If your friends really wait to hear jokes and free offers from you, you can safely hit the send button.

Try to write less in an email. You should remember it’s harder to read a computer screen than a piece of paper .So, don’t run on.

Breaking up your message with points and paragraphs is easier to read .You must remember to fill the subject field on the header of your email.

Don’t assume that simply because someone has email , they actually read it. I know people who don’t check email for days and weeks. There are ofcourse , people who log on every five or ten minutes.

Make sure you have a virus checker that is upto date . McAfee is a good virus software , which I use for my computer. Norton’s is also good.
