He Lives!

Kurt Cobain is dead, long live Kurt Cobain.

Often I wonder why talents such as Cobain, Senna, Hutchence ....

had to go so early. Fame often has a heavy, hidden payback,

Leaving millions like me sad for life.

Nevermind represents an inflection point in music history. It brought a strange mix of Metal, soulful rock music to the masses. I used to joke about Noise/member ratio which Nirvana generated would be unmatched by any other band. Another fact I used to mention to my friends was ’’This is one act that will never get invited to MTV unplugged’’, friends all over the world still remember making me eating my hat

on this one!

Will write about my favorite songs from ’’Nevermind’’ and one more:

In Bloom: Started liking this song after I saw the video, three nerdy boys performing in a black and white video, make a soft start and then hell breaks lose… wow this is what I call rock music (Bon Jovi go suck a lemon…) Stupid lyrics but Cobain makes this one magical

“ He’s the one

Who likes all the pretty songs

And he likes to sing along

And he likes to shoot his gun

But he knows not what it mean

Knows not what it mean “

Come as you are: What a song, listen to Cobain’s throaty vocals and the great guitar magic here.

“Come

As you are

As you were

As I want you to be

As a friend

As a friend

As an old enemy

Take your time

Hurry up …”

Something in the Way: My absolute favorite. One gets a feeling that Cobain was reflecting his confused state of mind. One almost feels as if he is asking for help…

Underneath the bridge

The tarp has sprung a leak

And the animals I’ve trapped

Have all become my pets

And I’m living off of grass

And the drippings from the ceiling

But it’s ok to eat fish

Cause they haven’t any feelings

Something in the way

Ummmmm

I know this one did not feature in “Nevermind”. But tell me you all Nirvana lovers isn’t this one of the best live performances of all the times. Everytime I listen to Cobain on MTV Unplugged singing David Bowie’s ’’The man who sold the world’’ and the guitar almost weeps, chill runs down my spine, the ability of an individual to create magic was never felt more.

Kurt Cobain doing the David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World”.

We passed upon the stair, we spoke of was and when

Although I wasn’t there, he said I was his friend

Which came as some surprise I spoke into his eyes

I thought you died alone, a long long time ago

Oh no, not me

I never lost control

You’re face to face

With The Man Who Sold The World

There is always a strain of sadness when I listen to Nirvana. The music is not about love or hope. Its about cruel life, survival, despair at times. Its black, its dark, its certainly not satanic but you “may” love it for the dark emotions it churns in your mind. Don’t buy this for your love, don’t listen to this with your kids. This is a private space which Cobain wants you to discover, don’t fall in love with this space, just know that it exists.

This is not every day music, this is a sacred yet dark, scary yet appealing work of art. Respect it ……

I am very very sad as I write this,

I wish he had lived to do more, I wish he asked for help...

May he rest in peace
