S.J. Suryah who gave excellent films like Vaali and Kushi has churned out the film New with sex as the undercurrent mainly to attract the front-benchers.
Pappu is an eight-year-old kid and son of Devyani and feel neglected and hurt when his mother always mocks and gets angry with him. He decides to commit suicide, but a scientist by name Science (Manivannan) rescues him and changes him into a 28 year old man Vicchu (Suryah) overnight. But Vicchu has an adult body with an eight year old mental growth. He gets employment in a toy factory owned by Nasser where he meets Priya (Simran) daughter of his employer who falls for him and tries to seek his attention.
Meanwhile Vichu realises his mother?s love and wants to go back to the 8-year-old. He requests Science to change him to 8 year old but Science?s medicine works partially leaving him as 8 year old in day time and 28 year old at nights. Forced to marry Simran, Vicchu alternates between two roles till he becomes the father of a baby boy. At a point he gets tired of being Pappu to his loving mother, attending schools and doing home works, and being a satisfying husband to his wife during nights! His dual life is exposed and how he manages all forms the rest of the story.
Suryah is convincing in the pivotal role because of his innocent face and smile. He has given an overall good performance. Simran, needless to say provides an excellent support with her great looks and mind-blowing feat. Devyani does nothing by way of acting. Kiran just comes in few scenes to woo Suryah. The director has included the mother - son sentiment to woo the women audience but has succeeded partially.
The film is full of double meaning dialogues which will not attract the women audience at all. There is nothing for children too. It will be difficult to sit with your family and watch this sexually over tone film. The major assets are songs by A.R.Rahman and the visual effects of cinematographer Guhan. Hats off to them! No doubt there is grandeur in the film.
