Out of Track

S.J.Suryah has finally came with his new roles as an actor and producer in NEW. As usual, he selected a lightweight story and succeed with that. And he did story, screenplay, dialogue and direcion for this film. Here I’m going to review each of the above. First we can take the story.

Story

It’s a light weight story. A eight year old kid Pappu gets converted to 28 year old in a day. And how he managed between these 2 ages is the story. Surya has always came with not imaginable story. In Vaali, he deals with a guy, who loves his own brother’s wife. And in Kushi, he deals with the link between 2 children and how they finally got into love when they were at teenage. Nothing to say more about the story.

Screenplay

Suryah always concentrate more on screenplay to fill the vacuum created by the story. That’s why all his light weight story gets clicked at the box office. Due to his focus at youth audience, he always mould the screenplay with flavours of youngster likings. But in this film, he somewhat tries to touch the adult audiences heart with some mother sentiment scenes and a song. This is the first time i’m seeing such a sentiment scenes in Suryah’s film. It’s a good approach. So we can except a serious and family sentiment movie from him in the future???

Dialogue

Nothing to say. In kushi, he put some double meaning dialogues here and there only. But in this movie, he avoided the double meaning dialogues at some countable scenes only. From the starting of the movie, you can hear a DM dialogue in each frame and it reaches its peak when kiran comes. Also, there are some good comedy dialogues like devayani conversion in police station. But these are suppressed due to that DM based dialogues. For this kind of comdey film, if he replaced that DM comedy with some decent dialogues, then it will attract both children and adults. Suryah has missed this opportunity even he came with some good comedies.

Direction

There is no big difference in his direction, no new techniques and didn’t have anything innovative things. But this time he used the music of A.R.Rahman, instead of Deva, who gave 2 big hits for his 2 films. And he nicely pictured the remix of ’Thottal Poo Malarum’. He extracted a decent performance from devayani. And that cute boy(Parth) is apt for that Pappu character. His acting in climax is really superb. Surya’s selection for that character is good. And the introduction of manivannan and karunas is another interesting thing. One mistake he did is showing more vulgeraity in Kiran’s character. she really not required in this film. Another mistake is selecting the Aishwarya character, with her irritating Raguvaran style dialogue delivery.

Acting

Actor surya is really done a great job than the director Suryah. I never thought that he is capable to doing this kind of role. He fits himself in an adult body literally with the same 8 year old mental growth. Surya is reliable in the pivotal role because of his childlike face and smile. He has given an overall good performance. His voice is really apt for that character. This is the only thing where Suryah attracts both children and adult audiences.

Production

This is the first time he is producting for a film. The major part of the film is shooted in sets only. We can see his production cost in some colorful sets like science’s household and ’Thottal Poo Malarum’ song. And his production cost increases at including Janakaraj, Nasser, Manivannan, karunas.. even for some scopeless small roles. They are coming in few frames only.

Conclusion

Suryah is really a good directior. His last two films hits at the box office. And this film too going a decent collection. I don’t know why Suryah has inserted this much of vulgarity and dual meaning words. Due to the feedback of this film, I think Suryah will come with some good numbers in the future.....
