I have been here for about 4 years now. First off I must say if you think NYC is like the rest of the US. you are dead wrong. Most of the US suffers from a very rural suburban culture. NYC on the other hand is unlike any city I MEAN ANY AT ALL! in the US.
When some one said its like Bombay he is right to the extent of its design.. city roads.. appartments and shops all intermingled! UNLIKE the rest of the US where houses and shops are miles apart :) and you have to drive just to buy some Orange juice!
NYC however is far cleaner than Bombay! Its much better in terms of infrastructure! you never nbeed a car! Taxis are cheap! and Trains and busses take you pretty much wherever you need to go. Like any big city it has its share of homeless and poor. but these guys tend to be entertaioning in the sence that they come onto the subways and sing songs to get some money! The rest who cannot even try to sing just beg!
Its a city that truely never sleeps! anytime of the day/night you are guaranteed at least a slice of Pizza. The restaurants can be found dime a dozen! Spanish, mexican, italian, ethioean, chinese, japanese, Indian(Bangladeshi), Indian!, French, German, Korean, Vietnamese, Greek tired? :)
Places to vist : Central Park, you can ski here in teh winter!!!, Times Sqr (touristy!), West Village!(touristy), East Village(artsy/ ny insider stuff), upper west side.. cool neighbourhood!... upper west side (snobby upscale people:) ), mid town.. touristy as hell!
The best thing about NYC is that its the norm to be a forweighner. if youre white youre in the minority :) of sorts! Its also ’’UNCOOL’’ to be american here :)simply because they dont add much to the flavour of ethnic diversity and traditions/cultures...why? they dont have any! :)

allin ALL if you come to NYC and experiance what it has to offer, you wont give it up for anything in the world!
