A business with students as a source of money

According to NIIT: ’’If you are not studying at NIIT, you are losing something’’

According to me: ’’ If you study at NIIT, you lose everything’’

This is my own experience and straight from the heart. This is the most pathetic and worst of all computer education centres.

This is a place where, a student is promised a bright future if he enrolls for the best course and then he is emptied of all his money.

Now, NIIT offers two main courses

  1. DNIIT (Diploma from NIIT) - 2 year course with a diploma certificate after finishing it.

  2. GNIIT (Graduate from NIIT) - 3 year course --with DNIIT and 1 year of employment provided by NIIT. the difference between these two is mainly the fees. GNIIT costs Rs. 10, 500 more than DNIIT (The fee is for the placement at the end of the 2 years. this fee is refundable as promised by them, in case, after 2 years you don’t want to work due to say various reasons). There is a limitation period for withdrawal of the amount(Rs.10, 500).

Now, I joined GNIIT in 1998 after my 2nd PUC. During my enrollment, I was told by the ’pretending to be good’ counsellers that this is the best course. (Remember, then there was the Software boom). After finishing the 2 years of study which pulled on to 2 years and 6 months (I was in 3rd B.Sc), the software industry nose-dived. So, I decided that since I had the option as promised by them that I could withdraw my placement amount of Rs. 10, 500, I thought this was the best time and I approached them. (as I wanted to apply for MBA entrance exams).

My percentage at NIIT throughout the 4 semesters were:

1st sem - 79%

2nd sem - 87%

3rd sem - 68%

4th sem - 70%

I knew that NIIT was cunning. The reason being that I once got high percentage of 87% in one of the semesters; and they did not pay me the scholarship amount of Rs. 1650, as per their own rules; but, ultimately I got it after sending them a warning letter from a journalist that their work will be published in TOI, if not addressed immediately.

But, this time, about 10 days ago I approached them and asked about the refund of the placement fee THAT I PAID-Rs. 10, 500. They said it is not possible to refund BECAUSE--MY money was distributed evenly among 3 semesters of my study and PLACEMENT was offered FREE!!!!!!. . MY money , WITHOUT my KNOWLEDGE, CONSENT was distributed, mismanaged and they say FREE.

At present, I am in search for a rigourous TOI journalist to sue them, who happens to be my friend; ( I request all my friends at MOUTHSHUT.com to help me if possible). I think I am filing a case against NIIT for FRAUD.

In terms of education, there is nothing special. All the institutes teach the same stuff with different study materials. In terms of placement, many of them have been placed for a salary of Rs. 1000/- per month in 2002( whereas a typist gets more than that). This is the quality.

In general, I feel NIIT has lost its image as a quality computer education provider and gained an image as a quality money maker by cheating students and their parents who beleive them.
