I bought this Nikon L110 may be within one month of its launch. I have used a couple of Nikon coolpix series earlier and I was(and still is) a great admirer of its picture quality and ease of use. Before buying L110 I had a Canon Powershot SX110IS which was a great camera to have with 10MP and a 10x Optical zoom. Interestingly as a practice before I go for a buy I do lot of research & review for any gadget so did the same before L110 and even checked mouthshut also but guess that time no one had any reviews out here for this camera. Even on Google a lot of sites had product description but no user reviews.
I am not sure if this is with my camera only but for me L110 had quite a disappointing performance not sure if others had a good time with it.
Starting with 12.1 MP which by all standards is fine but the picture quality is no great at all. Colours are a bit too vibrant and lack sharpness, tried to adjust the settings with whatever is given in the camera but did not got the quality which I used to get in my earlier Canon SX120. Reduce the MP and then one can have too many grains in the picture.
Biggest turn off is the shutter speed. I understand the average shutter speed should be 1/25(camera geeks can correct me if I am wrong) to have a decent picture and is connected with the blur or non blur picture. However if you don’t let the flash up sometimes its difficult to get it even in a complete natural light. A lot many times while taking a picture no matter how much I keep my hand steady and even with the Vibration reduction ON and with a Motion detection ON the picture do comes irritating blur(I am not sure that if this happens with me only or others also face the same problem). I even used a Tripod to make sure that there should not be enough movement but still results were not satisfactory. Secondly you cannot carry a tripod everywhere you go to take a picture. Also tried to work on ISO sensitivity but of no avail.
Sometimes I used the Sport continuous mode to ensure that I can take a better picture(non blur) even in steady conditions by using that mode. It gives results but then it takes the picture in 3MP and the grains in the picture are eminent enough.
Use full 15x optical zoom and quite many times it takes a lot of time to adjust the view to be clearly visible so that one can click a non blur image.
The good part is its Video recording on HD and the easiness to operate it. Overall appearance of the camera surely gives it a kind of pro camera look; Battery provided with the camera no doubt has good life. Also if you want to have a 15X optical zoom under Rs. 15, 000 then this one is for you.
However if you are a beginner or an occasional photographer then it’s better to go for a simple coolpix series which is under Rs.10k
I am still searching for forums on Google where someone has posted these kind of issues with L110 and he/she might have got some answers to resolve them.
