My new Coolpix S4

My worst ever purchase. I purchased it from US. It’s lens got corrupted with-in 3 months of use. I can not get it replaced as the lens is costing the same as the price of the camera and its guarantee is void as I have brought it from US to India.

I cannot attribute the fault due to miss-handling as, I also have another digi-cam, which is working fine with me for last five years. This camera has this permanent defect; I searched on the net about it. Lot of users have reported the same problem with the camera. Nikon must have called back this model from market. But this is a bad strategy on Nikon’s part, I had bought any Nikon equipment for the first time, and it has created such a bad impression that I might never buy any other Nikon product. I would ask it for 3-6 months trial basis (if this possible at all).

I can not write much as I was not able to use the camera for long, alas! This was the story two years back... It continues like this... I bought the camera for Rs 10, 000 from Chicago, US. I took it back to New Delhi, India.

It stopped working; I went to all the Nikon service centers, available in New Delhi. They have told me that Lens is faulty and it would take Rs 8, 000 to repair them. I didn’t find the deal to be feasible, so I dumped the camera in my cupboard.

After two years, I took the camera out and went to same service centers, this time they told me that shutter mechanism is faulty and it would cost me Rs. 4, 500 for repair. I can understand that cost would have come down but how come the fault in the camera has changed? I doubted their credibility so I took it to several other reputed repair shops for second, third, and so on opinion.

I finally reached Palika Bazaar, CP, New Delhi. There one of the small time repair shop (but quite old and renowned one. I’ve read about it on one of the digi-cam forum) told me that it would cost me Rs 1, 200 for the repair. There is some fault in one of the shutter component. He was also giving me one month warranty on the repaired item. I was more than happy, and asked the mechanic to do the repair. Twenty days has already passed, and the camera is working fine. Touch wood. I feel it would work fine further.

The repair mechanic has also told me that this model has this perennial problem. A number of customers and shop keepers have got the same problem in the same model repaired from me.

And the latest is, it has again stopped working... While I was in London. I purchased new Fuji Film FinePix Z10fd. I would soon write a review on this.

So far not so good; for Nikon reputation.** I sat out to write a review on the camera but it is a bit different than that. But this review took more than two years to complete, so it is definitely different in a sense.
