Nokia, stronger than a rock

This is my first mobile phone, gifted by my father way back in 2005 when I went to live in a hostel and start higher secondary school.

At Rs.4400, it was quite expensive back then, but we were told that this phone was supposedly one of the sturdiest phones ever made. Inserting the SIM card for the first time, the phone tumbled from my hand and landed headfirst onto the ground. The back cover and the keypad flipped out, the battery lied a little further away. I thought my new phone had met its end, even before I could have used it.

I put everything back in place, and turned on the Power button. The phone turned on, oblivious of what had just happened.

And like that, I kept on using the phone, the usage was mostly rough. Now by the time I graduated out of higher secondary, fancy phones had started to come up, the ones with colored screens and what nots. I bought a samsung C-100, and my 1108 was kept as an emergencyphone. The samsung phone lasted a mere 1 year. Then I bought another Nokia, 2600 if I remember correctly, but that too did not last long. Whenever my regular phone gave up, my Nokia 1108 always came to my rescue. And it dutifully did so for the last 12 years. I changed the battery only once.

The phone offers the most basic of features: calling, texting and two games, a calculator, alarm, flashlight, about 50 contacts storage and thats it. The call clarity is clear. And it has been in service for the last 12 years. What else can I ask for more?
