To own the trendiest Nokia at the beginning of its launch definitely gets one noticed. And when the mobile doesnt burn a huge gap in your pocket, and is coupled with features to make your communication experience change, it is surely a surefire hit! The Nokia 3200 costs Rs.12, 500 with bill, warranty and insurance as compared to its predecessor the 3100 which costs Rs.9800 (with bill and warranty), and is elegantly curvy, translucent, tiny and light at 90 gms.
Basically a Nokia buyer has to decide between three options
A basic phone without an inbuilt-camera (starting from the simple 3315 and 2100, 3530, 8250)
A phone-cum-data-organizer with PC connectivity (IR, GPRS, Email, Java, PDA features) and sometimes a camera, with business looks (eg.9210i, 6800, 7250)
A trendy phone with an integrated camera, music player/FM Radio, as well as connectivity (eg.3650, 3300, 6610, and now the recent 3200!)
So why choose the 3200?
Because it is a true all-in-one phone.
Read on for the most mouth-watering assortment ever packed into a 107.5mm X 45.1mm X 20.8mm space:
The number one feature to go for is of course its Integrated Digital Camera having 352 x 288 pixels resolution with a 10 second self-timer. The phone screen is used as the viewfinder. (The color screen Supports up to 4096 colors at 128 x 128 pixels.)
It stores the images as a Gallery and has image Upload capability for uploading the images to your PC or a server on the net! It also has a picture editor for editing the images on the phone itself. The photos can be taken using modes such as Standard Photo, Portrait Photo, and Night Photo.
It is highly customizable! You can change its looks using the five CUT-OUT COVERS provided, and can even design your own graphics and paste the print-out on one of the 20 blank cut-out templates included.
The navigation is excellent. I find that all Nokias are very intuitive to use. As we all know from the ads, Nokia calls this Human Technology.
It is a Tri-band GSM phone with support for 900 / 1800 / 1900 so it works in the USA as well.
It has a BLD-3 720mAh Lithium-Ion Battery with a talk time of 2 to 4 hours and a claimed standby time of 12 days (as usual take this standby time with a pinch of salt)
It has an inbuilt stereo FM radio, and you can record the FM and even use the recorded audio clip as a ring tone! The audio clips can be sent with MMS, along with clips shot from the camera! Be sure to use a hands-free kit (esp. while driving) - it is highly addictive!
16 polyphonic ring tones - send / receive ring tones as MMS.
The phone has a 1 MB internal memory, and all contacts can be stores as images.
All other standard features expected of a Nokia - profiles, personalized ring tones, speed dialing, T9 (auto-completion of typed text by using dictionary prediction), calendar, TO-DO list etc.
Connectivity - My PC and the 3200 are friends!
Infrared connectivity. Use the Nokia PC Data Suite for sending / receiving pictures, graphics, sounds, to install Java applications.
xHTML browser - do you need Internet Explorer (or even a PC :-) now?
Sends MMS to other MMS-enabled phones, and even sends MMS as email! (using WAP)
Three cool built-in Java games - more can be downloaded.
Supports EDGE (not used till now) - it brings the world of online gaming, application content downloading, and a seemingly endless list of applications for flexibility.
