Nokia 3230 – The Smartphone!

Welcome to the world of Nokia. It is said that once you use Nokia’s Handset you would never change over to another company’s handset! And in some sense its true too because both my handsets up till have been Nokia. No, I don’t use this one. I am still on the old favorite 6610, but one of my friend’s owns it and I have developed special liking to this one. Nokia 3230, which is called the ‘Smartphone’.

Battery life. -: Talk time upto 4 Hours, Standby time upto 150 hours While charging takes about one hour fifty minutes approx. The phone weighs in at 110g.

Memory -: 6MB of memory is shared dynamically between the Phone book, calendar, messages, images and applications. There is a feature to assign a photo to a name in the phone book, and MMS is upto 100KB for a message

Connectivity -: It has WAP2.0, GPRS, EDGE, Blue tooth, Instant Messaging, MMS, E-mail Protocols like SMTP, POP3 etc and again call duration is shown during a conversation.

Video -: It can capture video-clips to upto one hour with 32 MB Card. Resolution of videos is (176*144 pixel), and video capture is (16.7 million /24- bit color). There is a feature to edit the video clips by cutting and adding special effects like slow motion, and thus can create a minimovie unto 10 minutes long.

Music -: It can play MP3’s via the headset or the speaker with the added benefits of being able to FF and REW tracks. You can also use MP3 tracks as ring tones. Any multimedia files (audio and video) can be downloaded and played through Real Player, and also a full screen video playback on the phone to view downloaded, streamed, or recorded video clips in bigger size.

This is the first model equipped with a mega pixel camera intended for youth segment. It has a 1.3 mega pixel camera (1280* 960) image resolution. Functionally this model is the copy of Nokia 6630.But the impressive thing is its huge display screen, which seems sharper than those found on its previous counterparts like the 7610 and 6670. The overall design of concept is unusually reminiscent of a certain Sony Ericsson T610.

The 3230 sport the same speedy Nokia Series 60, Symbian-driven user interface Symbian OS version 7.0 . Messaging is quick and typically intuitive, and you can configure for mobile email access. Besides your usual helpful features like calendar, notes, currency converter and wallet, the phone allows for voice recording, albeit with a 1-minute duration cap. Applications load fairly briskly as well. Photo quality is comparable with its Symbian counterparts, so while mega pixel captures in ample lighting are reasonably sharp, But the performance under low-light conditions suffers considerably.

Games-:

The preloaded game Warrior runs in landscape orientation, which makes effective use of the large display. The most interesting game, though, goes to Agent V. AGENT V’’ is a weird but strangely addictive game using the camera to project ’things’ in real-time on the screen, they appear to be in the room around you as you move the phone about you then collect. Or shoot RALLY PRO is a car rally/driving game, Choose your tracks, choose your cars (EVO 8, etc.) and go. The games are the best of its kind, and I can say that I have never played such great games on any phone!

Negatives -:

The keypads have been reduced to a smaller size, which makes the grip slightly uneven and the handset top- heavy. Also there are no dedicated volume control in this handset like in 6670...In addition, the power button is same like the one in 3310 i.e. rather stiff. The digital zoom is a bit of joke as it deteriorates in quality from good to bad in only 3 stages.

In short- it’s not too bulky, heavy or awkward in shape, fits in your jeans pocket well, and does everything one needs. Cost -: 17, 000/- with bill.

P.S – Some technical information is taken from the Nokia website.
